Gods and Robots Myths, Machines and Ancient Dreams of Technology By Adrienne Mayor 2 stars
Mayor clearly knows about mythology and ancient history (as it is her profession) but does not know sci-fi or biotech. She did not decide to write the book, it was a request. Mayor delves deeply into each myth and their variations and their ties to history. It can be a little dry (the risk with university press publications) but also interesting. There are a lot of beautiful photographs of ancient pottery depicting the relevant myths. My problem is the strained biotechnology comparisons and few sci-fi references she knew (which usually were not the best ones out there) drove me crazy. I would recommend this only for the mythology, not for anyone who knows anything about sci-fi.
