Very bizarre kid's (?) book in which many characters die in strange and brutal ways [s]

I read that book around the years 2002 or 2003, and I don't remember very much from it. It was in german, but I don't know if that was it's original language or if it was translated from another one. There was a drawing of a horse on the cover, and essentially it was one of these horse books for little girls, safe for the gruesome deaths of some characters. What I remember of the plot is that the protagonist, named Tonke, got badly injured and had to spend a long time bed-ridden. That also prevented her from saving her favourite horse from some kind of ill fate, I think it was the slaughterhouse, but I'm not sure if I recall that correctly. I don't know if she manages to save the horse somehow or if the horse dies.
Tonke starts having various dreams or fantasies, so the book becomes kind of a collection of different short stories. I don't remember anything about the plots of these dreams, only that in every dream, someone dies rather suddenly. The two deaths I remember are one girl getting run over by a bus and another one getting eaten by cannibals, they impale her like an ox and roast her alive over a fire. Pretty wtf read for little me back then.
The only other detail I remember is that Tonke didn't like bananas, if that helps in any way.
