After a VERY slow start, this book picked up halfway through and towards the end I felt close to tears (but didn't actually cry).
It tells of Alex who has apparently fallen off a cliff (he's an excellent climber but doesn't think about his safety) and who is in hospital. Everyone thinks he's in a coma but the reader knows he is aware of everything around him, even if he can't see it clearly.
Halfway through the book, we're told that it no longer looks like an accident and someone has tried to murder him. Add into this storyline a paranoid girlfriend, loyal friends, suspicious parents-in-law, doctors, nurses, Alex's dad and sister and you don't know who out of all of them could have pushed him off.
In the midst of all of this there is a theme about when is the right time to turn off life support/stop treatment.
The girlfriend (Bea, pronounced bee) reminded me of Amy Dunne from Gone Girl, although Bea is way more likeable imo.
I'd recommend it to fans of Gone Girl and/or The Girl on the Train.
