Jethro Thao | 8 comments In “The Color Purple”, Celie gets pregnant at the age of 14 with her stepfather, Alphonso. The first baby she had was a girl and Celie thinks that Alphonso took her child into the woods to be killed. "He took it. He took it while I was sleeping. Kilt it out there in the woods" (2). Yet again she then gets pregnant with Alphonso and this time, it was a boy. She thinks Alphonso took her child and sold it to someone in Monticello this time. Later on, Celie finds out from reading the letters Nettie sent her, that her children are still alive, and that Samuel and Corrine (who Nettie tagged along with to help with missionary work) has adopted them and named them Adam and Olivia. She also finds out from Nettie, that Alphonso is their stepfather, and that Alphonso was just raising them as his own children. Celie then figures out from Daisy that the land, house, and store that she used to live in was passed down to them when their mother died, but Alphonso never told them because he just wanted to acquire the property and house. My question is, if you had the chance to speak with Alfonso before he died in his sleep, what would you do or say to him about the decisions he made? And why?

Yeng Yang | 14 comments I would really want to know how he feels when he sold off his two children. Ask him about his side of the story. Why he made the decisions he made. Like Celie, I probably wouldn't forgive him, but if I can just get him to talk, I would probably forgive him. It would be interesting to know his side of the story.

Michelle Lee | 17 comments I would say he doesn't have the right to take all the BELONGS that my mother pass down. Why did he kept everything to himself when my mother died and never told Celie and Nettie. Whatever you done, it's like your punishment. I also agree with what Yeng said too, about his feelings on his two children.
