You go! I'm going to try to get #3 read this year. 😄🙄

Hmm, 20 years sounds about right! (Since you admitted it I decided not to hide any longer...) I got the first one during a book club meeting, and ended up with either 8 or 10 of them after I read it, plus #2. I'm not much of a horror reader but didn't find the first two to be so bad. Then club members talked about how horrific the other books were and I chickened out. PamG, do you think a sort of squeamish reader can deal with the next few?

It's been a while since I read the early ones, but I don't generally recommend this series to anyone that can't handle violence, gore, and explicit scenes.

PattyMacDotComma I'm sadly nearing the end of Louise Penny's Chief Inspector Armand Gamache series. Number 15 is A Better Man. Freezing spring floods threaten Three Pines and Montreal.

PattyMacDotComma The title story of These Precious Days: Essays, by Ann Patchett is a novella-length essay about her amazing and unexpected friendship with an artist who is a personal assistant to Tom Hanks.

The book itself is due out in November - here's a link to the story, free online.

Alice | 3827 comments I just finished the The Lost Apothecary The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner by Sarah Penner. It is a duel time book. The connection between was well done but a bit unrealistic. My problem with the book is I just didn't like the characters thus difficult to really like the book.

I was planning on starting an Agatha Christie over the weekend, but wasn’t in the mood for it. Instead I read several short stories and started a 2015 rom-suspense from Mount TBR, Kansas City Cover-Up by Julie Miller.

Sorry, Brenda, that was a big typo on my part!!! Let me start over...I was tempted to put #2 on the WL but put #1 instead (specifically my audible list as I didn't find a Kindle version).

MaryAnn (EmilyD1037) Currently reading Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Very well written and interesting as I am a Civil War reader.

PattyMacDotComma I just enjoyed the thought-provoking second book of the Monkeewrench mystery series, Live Bait by mother-daughter duo P.J. Tracy. As if the concentration camp hadn't been bad enough, a Holocaust survivor is murdered. I'm glad there are more of these to look forward to!

Alice | 3827 comments I am reading The Mystery of Mrs. Christie The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict by Marie Benedict. Set in 1912 and 1926. Focus on Agatha Chrisite disappearance in 1926. I am about a third of the way through and it is just okay. It seems choppy to me and not connecting with the plot or story line.

Michelle (bluespirits) | 98 comments My last two non cozies were: Infernal Devices (The Hungry City Chronicles, #3) by Philip Reeve & Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily (Dash & Lily, #3) by Rachel Cohn

I enjoyed Infernal Devices, which was the third in The Hungry City Chronicles by Philip Reeve. The series wraps up with book #4. I was less enthused about Mind the Gap, Dash & Lily by Rachel Cohn. It was the third (& most recent) in the series. I really enjoyed the first book but each sequential book got worse & worse.

Finished Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen at 2 am. Difficulty sleeping, so thought I would read a chapter...and ended up finishing. Loved it, and can’t believe it took me so long to read it. After skimming the preview for The Sugar Queen and am officially intrigued. Hoping I can work that into the queue soon!

Now I’m waffling between two selections for a “boat” book. Hmm...maybe I’ll sleep on it. 😉
