When You're Not Reading a Cozy
I finished The Keepers
by Jeffrey B. Burton. This is the second book in the Mace Reid K-9 Mystery series. Burton managed to seamlessly combine an amateur sleuth mystery with a police procedural that also highlights relationships between dogs and people. My 5 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished a short story: A Time for Eating Wild Onions
by L.A. Starks.My short 2 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finally decided to 'review' my own 2020 on Goodreads by choosing the books I liked best. It's a strange assortment, but that's what makes reading fun for me.
5★ of course! Link to my good reads of 2020
Itchy fingers? Amigurumi Crochet: Farm and Forest Animals by Kristen Rask will have you busy with these cute designs. Clear details, excellent instructions.

I am reading The Awakening
by Nora Roberts.I am quite enjoying it. The story line pulled me in from the very begining. This book is first in trilogy
In Monday’s mail, I received a book in the mail from a friend, In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware. She wrote in the accompanying letter that she had found it in a LFL in Mississippi and enjoyed it so much she thought I would, too. She wasn’t wrong. While it took me a few chapters to really get into it, I soon found it difficult to put down, and spent all of this evening finishing it. I did guess who was behind the events that unfolded, but it was the why and how things would work out that kept me turning the pages. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good thriller!
I've just picked up my first Ruth Ware book to read - The Death of Mrs. Westaway It's book of the month in one of my groups so I thought it was a good excuse to try her :) I might check out your rec if I like this one Heather.
Small world, Brenda — There was a preview of your book in mine, but I didn’t read it, lol. This was my first Ware, though I do have another of hers in Mount TBR that I found at a used book sale.
Aside from the fact it was a gift I’d just received, I decided to read In a Dark, Dark Wood right away as it fit dual challenges—partially white cover here and B&W cover for the Ultimate Reading Challenge. Turns out it also fits ‘a book about forgetting’ (as well as a book you got for free) so I think I’ll hold off on slotting it for that challenge until I see if I get to the books originally pulled from Mount TBR for those categories. Comes in handy sometimes when a book fits multiple prompts (and I’m not one of those who double dip).

Definitely! It’s pure luck that the first several books read this year fit multiple challenges, especially that Ultimate Challenge. Not complaining, lol!

I just finished The Fever Tree
by Jennifer McVeigh A historical fiction that takes place in Colonial South Africa. I loved it.
A psychological suspense mystery I enjoyed this week:
The First to Lie by Hank Phillippi Ryan https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
The Last Voyage of Mrs Henry Parker by Joanna Nellhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This morning I finished Cake and Punishment
by Maymee Bell (aka Tonya Kappes), gave 3 stars. I then started
What Ho, Automata, y Chris Dolley, which is a takeoff of Jeeves & Bertie Wooster (which I enjoy but only in small doses - the idiocy gets to be Too Much quickly.) I'm already 3 books behind for my yearly challenge - I've been listening to radio & watching the news since January 6, which has severely cut into my reading time. I ought to listen to one of my cousins - he says why bother since neither of us can do anything about it anyway.
I finished a contemporary police procedural: What Waits for You
by Joseph Schneider.My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is an unusual addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series for children by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara. Louise Bourgeois was a troubled, unique artist who created disturbing sculptures.

Amazing Things Are Happening Here is a collection of short stories by Jacob M. Appel, a doctor who has a knack for writing stories with a twist.

I really enjoyed The Crossing, the first of Aussie author B. Michael Radburn's mystery series about a park ranger escaping his grief by taking a posting in Tasmania. It's frying pan into the fire stuff, except it's so bl**dy freezing that the fire might be welcome. Good read!

Jo wrote: "I enjoy reading Terry Pratchett Discworld novels. Fairly new to them but they are really good. I also enjoy reading young adult books (despite being 38 haha)."I loved these. The humor !
I finished Snow
by Orhan Pamuk. This is a book set in Turkey and written by a Turkish author that I read for a book club.My 3 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a great one for kids and music lovers. Elton John by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara is bright and interesting and real.

Sulari Gentill's exceptional Rowland Sinclair historical mystery series takes her four Australian characters to 1930's Shanghai in Shanghai Secrets. What a terrifying place it was - but a great read!

My review for
The Girl from the Mountains by Chrystyna Lucyk-Bergerhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm 31% into The Golem and the Jinni
, highly recommended by several members of the Bujold List. I'm liking it, so far.
I loved that book Jane! I'd borrowed it from the library, so bought myself a copy after enjoying it so much :)
I finished Serpentine
by Jonathan Kellerman. This is the 36th book in the Alex Delaware series: Mystery, Suspense, Cerebral Police Procedural. My 4 star review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading Cold Wind
by Paige Shelton (Book 2 in series). Generally Ms. Shelton writes cozies, but this series is more mystery thriller. Set in Alaska. Very good setting and characters. Lots of room to grow this series.
Last week while rearranging and sorting through books, I happened upon a slim autobiography by Eudora Welty, One Writer's Beginnings. It was originally published in 1983, and (according to the cover) spent 46 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. I have no idea how or when I acquired this book. Was it given to me? Did I find it at a used book sale? No idea.
I don’t remember reading it previously, though there are some blue ink markings of passages here and there. I was trying to decide what to read next last night and this unearthed treasure was calling to me. Probably because I have been working through a collection of short stories of Welty’s since last autumn. One of her best-known stories is “Why I Live at the P. O.”, which we read in high school English.
