SOLVED. A true crime about a solved murder boyfriend/girlfriend parent in Santa Barbara

I believe this was in the 90s. It was a boyfriend who spoke with his girlfriend (maybe by phone) and they (at least one or two of these, the mom, dad, and/or girlfriend) met at a beach in Santa Barbara and the boyfriend was ultimately convicted of murdering either his girlfriend’s mom or dad or both. I think the murder weapon was a gun. Last I heard, the boyfriend is still in prison for the murder.

I have a vague memory that the book’s title was something to do with light, like sunset.
