I read this book in the 1970's. Probably not a children's book. Odd and a little sad, I think, All I remember is white horses turning into the white caps on waves.

The Last UnicornThe unicorn is mistaken as a horse. I never read the book, but I saw the movie as a child, and I definitely remember the image of the other white unicorns as caps of waves.
Julie, please read the Group Rules at the top of the group's Home Page, which explain what to put in your header/title. You can copy and paste your first comment into your header.
“And in the whiteness, of the whiteness, flowering in the tattered water, their bodies arching with the streaked marble hollows of the waves, their manes and tails and the fragile beards of the males burning in the sunlight, their eyes as dark and jeweled as the deep sea--and the shining of the horns, the seashell shining of the horns! The horns came riding in like the rainbow masts of silver ships.” ― Peter S. Beagle, The Last Unicorn
Does that sound familiar?
Sorry for posting incorrectly, but thank you for the responses. That is the book I was trying to remember!
