Hi. I hope you can help me find a book I read probably in the late 1990's but definitely before 2008. I think I read about it in the Bas Bleu catalog. It was a hardback book, and had a picture of a red apple on the cover. It was a short novel about a little girl, age 5 or so, who lives in the country and whose mother is dying. The girl is very imaginative and I think the book's title is a nickname she picks for herself. A lot of the book tells about how she sees the world. The parents are very engaged with her in helping her understand her mother's impending death. The book was told in a very upbeat way. Perhaps from the point of view of her father.

Title may have had B. as the last word and some other first name as the first word -- I vaguely remember...
It's been many many years since I read this, but it sounds similar to "Ida B: . . . and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World" by Katherine Hannigan.
