Lindsay | 8 comments I read this book early/mid 90s, I don't know if it was published then but I think it seemed fairly contemporary. I think it was a British book - the fact that the modern parts of the story were set in England suggests it was - but I don't know for sure.

It was about a young black girl who was visiting (or maybe moved to?) Bristol, had an accident (I think she fell and banged her head), and woke up in the hold of a slave ship bound for America. I can't remember if she was actually herself or if it was more of a Quantum Leap kind of thing. I think she befriended a boy while she was there, and it was obviously pretty harrowing.

That's about all I remember, sorry! I've tried various Google searches and looked through various lists of children's time travel stories here on Goodreads but I can't seem to find it.

Edit: I never thought to mention, but I'm British so the book would have to have been published in the UK at some point prior to the mid-90s!

Just found the description for that and it sounds quite close but I'm sure the framing parts of the story were set in England, and she definitely wasn't in the woods when she went back (some reviews sound like the girl in this one was). Also I had a look at the editions to see if a cover jogged my memory and it doesn't seem to have been published in the UK at all so I think it's unlikely the library would have had a copy! Thank you though.
