Cool!
And they made it a Hartnell story.
Good. That was my choice too.

Also Class though that didn't stay long either.

I agree with you about Torchwood. I was seriously not happy with that series for precisely those reasons, and the season they did with Starz is the worst of the lot.

Rick | 2260 comments I loved both Class and Torchwood. The former wasn’t given enough time to really develop, but it’s got 13 more “episodes” from Big Finish. And the latter, I think I liked it precisely for the reasons you both didn’t like it.

I forgot about Class.
Can't really judge it, as I only ever saw the first episode.

Torchwood had its moments, but seemed too interested in being 'adult' and not enough in telling a decent story.
Solid cast, but it quickly became the Gwen show.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Not a ton of extras on Abominable Snowmen, but it was very cool seeing the nature park in Wales where they filmed it.

Be cool to visit that, after I go to the village where they filmed the Prisoner

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Patrick Troughton showed up on the episode of Space: 1999 I was watching....and unfortunately, was one of the only good parts of the episode.

Man, that second season is rough.

message 1557: by Rick (last edited Apr 13, 2023 03:47AM) (new)

Rick | 2260 comments Yes. That second season is … rough. The producer for Year Two was Fred Freiberger. Who, as far as I’m concerned, was an absolute terrible showrunner. He was the producer for the third and final season of Star Trek, the second and final season of Space: 1999 and the final season of The Six Million Dollar Man. If you want to destroy a well loved TV series, and have it end with pissed off fans - hire Fred Freiberger. He’ll put a bullet in the corpse for you.

message 1558: by Travis (new)

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Think the big problem with Space;1999 season 2, isn't that it's bad, but wildly uneven.

No explanation for the major cast change, scripts that can't seem to decide if the Alphan crew are any good at their jobs and the need to jam action scenes into what was a fairly cerebral show.

Shame we never got any comics or novels that had the two casts interacting.
I think Victor and Mya would have become science pals.

message 1559: by Rick (new)

Rick | 2260 comments As a kid, I loved season 1 and then season 2 hit me like a ton of bricks. “What’s going on!? Where’s Victor?” But I did enjoy the action and the faster pacing. The problems is that’s it’s not just “wildly uneven” as you said, it’s unfocused and all over the place. Gone were the cinematic sets, PARTICULARLY the gorgeous, and iconic, Main Mission set and Commander’s Office. The stories are a mess. The characters are inconsistent. Every time I rewatch season 2, I appreciate season 1 a little bit more, and my tolerance of season 2 drops a little bit. While I still enjoy season 2, and Space: 1999 rates as an all time favorite series for me, it doesn’t have anywhere near the same appeal as it did when I was 14-15.

message 1560: by Travis (new)

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments I can't deal with any more live action remakes of animated films from Disney.

They are all so uneven and frustrating.

I will give Disney money not to make them, at this point.

message 1561: by Rick (new)

Rick | 2260 comments But all you have to do is NOT watch them.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Rick wrote: "But all you have to do is NOT watch them.", so they keep showing up.

I'm trying, but I married a Disney obsessive.
Can't dodge them all.

I miss the days when Disney made new stuff.

Rick | 2260 comments Travis wrote: "I'm trying, but I married a Disney obsessive. Can't dodge them all. I miss the days when Disney made new stuff."

😹 I dodged THAT one at least. Although my ex does now WORK for Disney, after having worked for Cisco, NASA and DreamWorks at various times. Not as glamorous as it sounds, he does IT stuff, computer security, etc. 😹
And now Disney owns (almost) all of my loves in pop culture: MARVEL, Planet of the Apes, Aliens, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Die Hard, Dark Crystal, Willow, Muppets, etc. And now Disney is going to be airing the new Doctor Who. So, as I tell him, Disney owns my soul now. What’s next? Farscape? Star Trek? Space: 1999? Wheee! 😸

message 1564: by Travis (new)

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments It always amuses me when my wife defends Disney by saying 'well, they just can't go do that..."

Um...they own a quarter of the planet and are constantly pulling in billions of dollars, I think they could do (fill in the blank)

I love Disney, but some of their poor choices and assorted BS make me roll my eyes.
Though, if they are what takes down Desantis, I'll cut them some slack.

Rick | 2260 comments DeSantis has a new revenge plan, put a prison right next to Disney World parks in Orlando. Right, let’s build a prison next to an amusement park that has millions of children there every year. Not a good plan. 🙄 DeSantis is a screwball fascist.

That was somewhat "Class". It established that it was in the "Whoiverse" and the season finale that became the series finale of course ended with a huge cliffhanger. I understand there was a Big Finish audio adventure that continued it and tied up some of the loose ends. However many fans like myself do not follow the audio adventures. For me there is just too much out there to try to keep track of things. It is like Marvel and DC comics and all their multiverse universes and rebooting them back to one universe just to branch them out to more multiverses again and again. Both comic companies are on version 3 or 4 of their multiverses.

Very true.
I dabble in the side stuff to a bunch of franchises, and like a lot of it, but never saw it as carved in stone, as that stuff can go away in a heartbeat and it's not seen by a big chunk of fandoms.

And I'm sending him to Pompeii.

Yeah, I'm seeing Indiana Jones and the dial of destiny in the theaters.
And even though she hates that title, I'm dragging my wife along with me.

message 1575: by Rick (new)

Rick | 2260 comments Upon seeing the screening of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, along with a hoard of Disney executives and the director, Steven Spielberg stood up, turned to the room and said “I thought I was the only one who knew how to make one of these things.”

So if Spielberg liked it, I’ll go see it in the theater.

I probably won’t go see The Flash in the theater.

I was very blah on Dial, until the trailer.
Looking forward to it.

Pretty much everything from DC is a 'wait until streaming".
Which is sad, as you'll be hard pressed to find a bigger comic geek on the planet.

Maybe James Gunn will save them.
Wait and see.
But Flash just feels like "New Mutants", as the end of an era, and not one we will particularly miss.

Good.
I loved it.
Such a good ending to the saga.
I wanted to be annoyed at them dropping an f-bomb in a MCU movie, but the gag actually made me laugh.
Warlock was better than I expected, but in a very crowded movie, he wasn't going to get a ton of time.
Curious to see what they do with him in the future.

Travis (travishiltz) | 2397 comments Rewatched Paradise Towers for my pitch.
Gotta say, I liked it better this time around.

The story is still pretty weak, but it is a fun little world.
Richard Briers, who is usually a pretty solid actor, seems to have no idea what show he's in.
Always nice to see Sylvester being quirky.

Ooh, you could do a story about the Residents of the Tower.

One of things that never really gets explored in the story is how the Residents of the Tower got separated from the kids (Kangs) and the Guards. Those kids came from families at one point and some of the Residents had have been parents (or there wouldn't be any Kangs ... ). Some times, it's probably just better to not dig too deep I guess. LOL
