There's a phrase I don't hear that often.
A youtube reviewer referenced the Happy Days cartoon where they end up time traveling, which I had just assumed I'd dreamed as a teen after trying jolt cola.Nope, it was real and it's as fun and weird as I'd remembered it to be.
Shouldn't work, but nobody feels out of character and the humor works.
In a recent interview, RTD mentions he'd like to create a who-universe and create spin-offs once the show is established. So, what spin-offs would you like to see?
My list (trying to make my picks realistic ones they are all New Who based):
Lady Vastra and company: Obvious choice
Government group that deals with alien stuff: either Kate Stewart's UNIT team or Rose Tyler's version of Torchwood on her alternate Earth.
something where the setting is the star: The western Town Mercy, the spaceship UK from 'Beast Below' or the alien street from 'Face the Raven'
Something like that.
A Doctor Who version of Deep space 9 would also work.
Honorable mentions:
The kids from Sarah Jane adventures team up to continue her work or some kind of update of 'K-9 and company'
The Doctor Who version of the Mandalorian.
Paternoster Gang - YES! And Big Finish has just announced a new series for them: The Paternoster Gang: Trespassers 1
And I’d love to see a Captain Jack Harkness series where he’s traveling the universe, not just attached to Torchwood.
Please no more Rose Tyler or Clara Oswald. Can we just let them disappear into the legends of magical women and be done with it. But depending on what happens with Donna in the 60th anniversary specials, I’d love to see Catherine Tate back again.
How about a series for the Fugitive Doctor?
And I know it won’t happen, but I’d LOVE to see them bring the cast of Class back in some way.
Rick wrote: "I’d vote for Peladon to replace the Deep Space Nine concept."I had a couple Classic Who locations on my list (including Peledon), but thought I'd stick with the ones that had a shot.
RTD was vague so no idea in the interview, if he's thinking of doing new stuff or bringing back older places/people.
Rick wrote: "Paternoster Gang - YES! And Big Finish has just announced a new series for them: The Paternoster Gang: Trespassers 1"They will show up every time I do one of these kind of lists.

So, you probably don't want to hear about my 'Legion of magical girls' idea...
Although if we extrapolate from what Big Finish is developing, then we can probably say the TV franchise isn’t actively wanting to continue with these. The Master (Sacha Dhawan)
The Master (Eric Roberts)
The War Master
Missy (Michelle Gomez)
The War Doctor Begins
Paternoster Gang
Kate Stewart’s UNIT
Jenny, the Doctor’s Daughter
Romana & Leela on Gallifrey
Lady Christina
Rose and the Dimension Cannon
Martha Jones
Donna Noble
The Lone Centurion (aka Rory)
Peladon
Gallifrey during the Time War
Eighth Doctor in the Time War
The Diary of River Song
Classic Doctors, New Monsters (Time War)
The Fugitive Doctor (Jo Martin)
And continuing the adventures of
The First Doctor (David Bradley & Stephan Noonan)
The Second Doctor (Michael Troughton)
The Third Doctor (Tim Treloar) & now Jo Jones (not Grant) so they’re using the older Jo (Katy Manning)
The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker)
The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison)
The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker)
The Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy)
The Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann)
The Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston)
The Tenth Doctor & the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant)
And the chronicles with other actors stepping in for the Eleventh & Twelfth Doctors.
And the Eighth of March series which celebrates and features the women of Doctor Who, which I’m sure will be featuring the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz before too long.

Odds are, it'll be something new that RTD introduces in his run, like they did with Torchwood and Class.
But, just hearing then phrase 'Doctor Who spin off' sent my brain whirring.

A good spin off would be a colony ship from one of the many great migrations from Who history. You could do human stories of survival etc and then have them encounter some cybermen or Slitheens.
I wonder if RTD is hiring...?
Finished the Man from Atlantis novel that Patrick Duffy wrote and it was fun.Few annoying loose plot threads, as it's obvious he wants to turn this into a series, but had the feel of the TV show.
Oh man, I’d completely forgotten about the Man from Atlantis comics from the 70s. I think I’ve still got them stashed away some place.
Rick wrote: "Cool. I wasn’t even aware he wrote a book."I stumbled across it while checking out the series wikipedia page.
Was looking for info about the series.
Found the book on amazon and using my points, got it pretty cheap.
Rick wrote: "Oh man, I’d completely forgotten about the Man from Atlantis comics from the 70s. Why isn't this a Namor comic?'
Can't remember if I sold them or they are in a box somewhere.

You could combine the two ideas.
I like the more primitive planet being used as a hub for galactic travel.
Just watched an episode of the B+W pre-Mrs. Peel Avengers and both Geoffrey Palmer and Nicholas Courtney were in it.Fun stuff.
Haven't watched much of the B+W stuff. Hopefully amazon has all the episodes.
Avengers was another show that the BBC had erased a bunch of the original tapes. A lot of the older stuff is gone.
Rick wrote: "Avengers was another show that the BBC had erased a bunch of the original tapes. A lot of the older stuff is gone."I believe the first two seasons, where Steed had a male Doctor for a partner, are considered lost, but season 3 on, they have nearly all of them.
Just figuring out what's available for streaming and where it is, is tricky.
Netflix used to have a bunch off them.
Ant-man 3 was a really fun movie.Guy playing Kang is a powerhouse of an actor and Michelle Pfiefer walks away with every scene she's in.
Been dealing with some stuff, so I needed some comfort viewing:Battlestar Galactica: Yes, most plots are cheesy, but I love those old school Cylons!
Good, old fashioned space opera.
Galaxy Express 999: probably my favorite anime.
Love the mix of weird sci-fi, the romance of train travel and morality play.
Rick wrote: "Looks like RTD has unofficially announced that a spin-off with Kate Stewart and UNIT is coming. 😻"
Well, it's about time!
Hopefully RTD writes UNIT as being competent and good at their jobs....unlike that other government organization.
Been rewatching all the old Sinbad movies.Just watched 'Golden Voyage', the one where Tom Baker is the bad guy.
Good stuff!
Yeah, I loved these as a kid and it's great rewatching them.Just Eye of the tiger left, then I think I'll do Jason and the Argonauts
Travis wrote: "Been rewatching all the old Sinbad movies.Just watched 'Golden Voyage', the one where Tom Baker is the bad guy.

that is the role that landed him the role of The Doctor.

I’ve heard that before. I find that hilarious.

Yeah, he was known for that and playing Rasputin on stage and someone at the BBC said 'Make him the star of that kid show of ours...!'
Go figure
Now watching 'Jason and the Argonauts' and Patrick Troughton shows up.Forgot about that.
Strange they never tried to do an Argonauts comic or cartoon.
Jason basically put together a Justice League of greek heroes.
Yeah, I’ve always wanted a graphic novel adaptation of The Argonauts since I was a little kid. I also thought Marvel missed and great opportunity to have a 12 issue series on the labors of Hercules.
Rick wrote: "Yeah, I’ve always wanted a graphic novel adaptation of The Argonauts since I was a little kid. I also thought Marvel missed and great opportunity to have a 12 issue series on the labors of Hercules."
Charlton comics did one about Hercules.
Found a couple issues in the cheap box.
Never tracked down the rest to find out if they managed to adapt the whole story.
A marvel version of the Argonauts with their versions of some of the characters and various marvel immortals and ancient warriors to fill out the cast would have been cool.
Local place that buys and sells DVDs and CDs had a copy of the Abominable Snowmen. So, I cleaned off a shelf and got myself a copy.
My wife's happy, as I did some decluttering and I'm happy, as I have some Troughton Doctor Who to watch this weekend!
Abominable Snowmen: That was a lot of fun. Well written Tardis team, cool setting, the animation was really well done, a favorite monster of mine and a six parter that didn't feel too padded.Only downside: There great Intelligence's plan doesn't' make much sense.
Whole bunch of extras on the disc to keep me busy this week.
More yeti thoughts: decent extras.I like how they give you the option of color or B+W animation ( I prefer the B+W myself)
Was fun to see the little bit of remaining footage from the original.
Always a good thing to see more of Troughton acting.
One of the things I like about this story is the hints that the Doctor has been to Tibet before.
I always pictured it as a lost Hartnell story, but a couple vague references make it sound like it could have been Troughton.
Which means it was when he was traveling with Ben and Polly.
Surprised somebody hasn't done something with the idea.
Where's Nick Briggs when you need him?
So, if we are getting Who spin-offs, I want Russell to create a Mandalorian.Take a little piece of Who-lore, stick it in it's own corner, make it cool and once we love it, slowly show how it fits into the bigger Who-universe around it.
Maybe, occasionally use it to fix odd bits of continuity or build up stuff.
My other spinoff thought ( I work cheap Russell, give me a call): The super hero, the Ghost, from 'Doctor Mysteriso'.Imagine a CW style super hero show where all the bad guys are Doctor Who aliens and foes.

Wasn't that The Sarah Jane Adventures? And Torchwood to a point I guess - but that concept got destroyed unfortunately.

No Torchwood was sex, death and swearing and they would occasionally remember to put some sci-fi in, but never any Doctor Who.
SJA was closer, but I'm thinking more a new character/cast/setting that slowly connects and builds on stuff from the Who-verse.

Big Finish has actually done a prequel to Doctor Who: The Abominable Snowmen, called: Doctor Who: The Secrets of Det-Sen. It was pretty good.
