Ok so I believe that it's a sci-fi book. It's starts out with a man on a expedition through the desert. He comes across a unnatural phenomenon. It's a light show like phenomenon in the desert and then he passes out only to find himself in a new world. He meets a new species and falls in love with one of them while he's trying to find his way home. The new species is human like and they are also like savages or village like people.
