Looking for some new author recommendations...my favorite authors are usually urban fantasies or scifi. I like strong female leads, and strong character development. Favorite authors include orson Scott card, Kelley Armstrong, Diana Gabraldon, illiona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, pierce brown. my favorite book recently was the red rising series....

I'm not a fan of the more traditional fantasy, like The Hobbit. But I'm not opposed to young adult books, like harry potter series :)

Please please help me find some new authors to try 😁😁❤😁

It reminded me a lot of The Poppy War. Both have motives of schooling in preparation for future story line and oter aspects. Poppy War is more fantasy with magic and honestly very brutal with graphic scenes (hanging loved ones in Red Rising is nothing compared to that).

You could try out Leigh Bardugo, I specially enjoy her Six of Crows duology, it has a great group of characters that includes two bad-ass ladies (but it's more of a YA traditional fantasy not urban fantasy though).
If you liked Harry potter you might enjoy Rick Riordan, he has very fun books related to mythology with that similar atmosfere of friendship and adventure as HP I would say.
Laini Taylor's Daughter of smoke and bone trilogy is very good (would maybe call it a mix of urban and traditional fantasy) and she just came out with a new duology recently (but I haven't read that one yet).
The Illuminae files trilogy is also very good if you like scifi (specially the first book), it also has a very interesting format where it uses reports and emails and all kind of files to tell the story, and in that one the ladies in the main roles are also great.

Sorry I might have ended up giving you more of a book than author reccomendations but still hope it will help you and you will enjoy some of those titles and authors :)

If you haven't read the Golden Compass series by Phillip Pullman, I would definitely recommend that series. Maybe V.E. Schwab as well?

I just finished A Little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie and the character development and story were pretty great. Robert Jackson Bennet has a really great female lead series (The Devine Cities trilogy), and Hugh Howey has a great dystopian series as well. If you haven't read Patrick Rothfuss, you should! :) Good luck!
