Rose Jhony | 1 comments I am searching for a beta reader for my partners memoir. It is about his time as an actor in the 80's and moonlighting as Guardian Angel on the streets of New York City. I have read the memoir myself and have notes on what I feel does/does not work. However being so close to him perhaps my critiques come off more criticizing than constructicve. I am specifically looking for someone who can give feedback on whether the narrator is a sympathetic and likeable voice. What parts and sections do not contribute to the greater story. What did you feel was lacking from the tone/structure/writing in general. What major changes would be needed to bring the memoir into the right direction and what questions should be asked/answered through the writing which arent addressed. I am not interested in a line by line edit at this time. I have a budget of $100.
Thank you in advance.

Annesha Das Gupta (thesandfromembers) | 7 comments Hello Rose,

I like the brief you have stated regarding the memoir, and will like offer my services for the same.

To give a brief about my experience, I have been beta reading and sensitivity reading for both experienced as well as new authors for over three years now and is ready to take on even more recent connections in the writing community.

My philosophy is quality over quantity and thoroughness over time. I usually ask the author to provide an initial two-chapter sample for me to go over and get back with feedback, all within the ambit of three days. Afterwards and only if the author is satisfied with my work, I request them to transfer a small amount through PayPal, as a safety deposit, and then for for the rest of the work , and if the author wishes - a separate questionnaire pertinent to the manuscript (optional).

I ask for the other half of my fee only after and if the review has been satisfactorily completed.

In this manner, both the author and I can get a feel of each other's work ethics and judge if we are in tandem, thus devising detailed notes and curating a thorough report - giving the author their money's full worth.

For a beta read, I take a maximum of about two-three weeks depending on the length of the work and the author's convenience. And as far as how much I charge, it will about USD 1.50/1000 words, which will bring about a manuscript of 78
k to USD 117. Though, I can adjust the amount according to convenience.

Hope this clear things up by a bit, and I shall look forward to hearing from you.

Warmest Regards,
Annesha

Sara | 44 comments Hi Rose! This sounds like an amazing project, I would be honored to work with you and your partner on this novel. I have been a freelance editor/beta reader since I graduated college in 2008. I wasn't sure if there was a specific time frame you needed this back by, my general turnaround time is 7-10 days but if you need it sooner just let me know.

I make all my notes on the manuscript with track changes and then I do a separate analysis of the novel as a whole after I finish. If you'd like to chat more about working together please don't hesitate to email me at prettylittlebookpromotion@gmail.com

I hope you have a spectacular day!

Christy H (christybetareads) | 184 comments Hey Rose,

If you're still on the hunt for a beta reader, I would love to help! My name is Christy Howell and I am a freelance beta reader. I have been a beta reader for about five years and I love what I do. My favorite genres to read include YA, fantasy, sci-fi and thrillers but I tend to read a little bit of everything!

For a 78k word text, it would cost $78 and I would be able to finish it in a week or less!

For this price, I take detailed notes as I read on character and plot consistency, text flow, spelling and grammar issues that may impede the flow of text, cliche phrasing or situations and anything else that may pop up at me as I read. Once I'm finished I summarize anything that I think may need to be addressed but isn't tied to a particular page number.

I'd love to hear back from you if you're still on the hunt. Please feel free to reach out to me at ChristyBetaReads@gmail.com

Thanks,
Christy
