The story came as a trilogy, starting out where a female Sphinx-like character (I’ll call her Sphinx from here on out), whose first memory is of being ripped apart from her mother by a reptilian-like high-ranking general, who gives her to his privileged daughter, who lives as a princess (I’ll call her princess from here on out) as a pet. Princess adorns Sphinx with a cartouche on a collar. The two are very close, but as they grow together, Sphinx realizes that she is at the mercy of the sometimes cruel Princess, that she is not allowed to learn as Princess does, or have any freedom. Her life of luxury is at the whim of Princess, and when Sphinx does something that displeases Princess, she is punished. Throughout the series, Sphinx realizes the wrongness of how her people are treated by the Reptilians and she begins to fight against the tyranny. By the end, Sphinx has become a major rebel against the Reptilians and a champion to her people in their fight for freedom. The first book’s cover shows a Sphinx-like creature with a collar and her left cat-like ear has a piercing.

"Please help if you can! I read this trilogy in the 1990’s or early 2000’s and have been searching for it ever since. The first book, a female “kit” is torn from the warmth of her mother and taken as a gift to a reptilian-type princess and they bond. The heroin is given a cartouche. She learns a lot about the species which enables her to wage war. Towards the end, the princess rejects the heroin. The names of the people in the books have a lot of apostrophes in them.
By the third book, she has a son who constantly disappoints her, but she has become a warrior, fighting with and for her people.
One thing I remember about the cover of one of the books is the feline humanoid/species has an ear cuff or earring and is at the forefront with a stone archway behind her. It seems like one of the titles has the word “golden” in it, but I’m not sure."

Is this book for teens or adults? How old is the princess?
I FOUND IT AT LAST! I was going though a Goodreads Best Science Fiction and Fantasy list that contained 7,050 books. I got to page 58 (out of 71 pages total) before I found it. I’m so glad I didn’t give up looking. I love this series. I just wish it were available on my Kindle, so I put in a request. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
