About man’s life, from petty theft to getting involved with girlfriend who overdoses. He then gets involved with a preachers daughter, actually a cult type thing, the daughter convinced him to murder. Case goes to trial and he’s sent to prison and she is free. Been looking for this book for twenty years! Please help me. Thank you!

How/where does he meet the preacher's daughter? Are they romantically involved?

Hi! Billy(not sure of the name) is the main character. The book talks about his upbringing, working in a hardware store and leaving home. Major spoilers here, I think he meets that daughter on a street. He’s in love with her and she convinces him to murder various people. During trial, she gets off free and he’s sentenced to life without parole. I thought it might be a Ann Rule book, but couldn’t find it yet.
Oh and the woman that overdosed was his first real girlfriend.
