Ha ha I know that feeling too Abbie. I always think every vacation I'm going to get so much reading done, but I never get as much accomplished as I think I will.
finished :)

Review: this was pleasant and the characters were very likeable...this was a brand new author to me...and if you are a fan of James Herriot or Patrick Taylor...you are certain to like this book. I found myself runnng the gamut of emotions..but also I was laughing out loud from the onset of the story!
Nicole wrote: "Sheila and Catherine, I saw your names on the Tower Team challenges sign up thread :D"I did the Tower Team last round as well. It is more a marathon than a sprint. I enjoyed all the extra puzzles and challenges.
Crazy week for me!Just got home from Book Club meeting just a little bit ago. Trying to catch up!
Work has been hectic...plus all the craziness with Ebola...

...what to say....I guess the movie ruined it for me. My daughter was the one who wanted me to read it, it is not a bad book, but I guess I have mixed feelings about it. Some parts I enjoyed, and others I could of done without.
A girl who finally sees the big picture, but does she really? I think I just need to stay away from YA for awhile, all this gushy boy/girl stuff is making me crave Dexter.

As a retired respiratory therapist of 35+ years, can I just say how glad I am to be retired?
I wonder if that nurse that spoke out about not having the right protective equipment will have a job tomorrow? I can sure empathize with her. I know many times if a patient was in isolation for something the 15 second rule applied. If you are just going to be in and out don't worry about it. Yeah, right.

Living right next to Dallas, it has been crazy. We have had school closings and mass paranoia.....and some of the things I have heard coming from people, are just plum crazy....
Just Hoping that these two nurses is were it ends. Luckily it was caught early enough, and these two women are cured.
Sorry to scrape in so late! I finished this yesterday but work has been crazy hectic and I'm just putting up a quick review now before sleeping. Talk to you all tomorrow after the dice has been rolled! The White Princess **1/2 stars
This was probably my least favourite of the Cousins War series. I'm trying to figure out if that was because it was the first one not to have a loving relationship between the two main protagonists, or whether it's because I was expecting and hoping to go straight into Richard and Elizabeth's romance, but it skipped forward to the marriage of Elizabeth and Henry Tudor.
Like the ones before it, this book is full of the infighting and backstabbing that features heavily in the saga of two families fighting it out for supremacy over the throne. I think I really noticed the lack of a loving relationship here because that has been the one thing that has broken up the horrors of death and backstabbing in the previous novels.
But no, it wasn't just the lack of love... Henry was actually quite cruel in Philippa's retelling of history. So quite opposed to having a break and seeing the merriness of a court in love, there was fighting within and without the castle.
None of this is to say that the story was deliered with anything less than Philippa's reliably high standard of writing skill. However, although I quite liked that, and even the references to the Spanish Infanta who would become Henry VIII's later bride, this book just didn't do it for me.

Abbie, I'm not sure what the 4 stars refers too. Is that any book that has 4 stars in the description? I want to use
The Yard by Alex GrecianWill this work? Or does it have to be from that particular list
I'm going to pick
for this weeks read from the four stars list :)**edited to add the link for Abbie's ease**
Hey Catherine, are you aware of the buddy read that's been organised for The King's Curse? If you don't end up reading it this week, or if you'd like to discuss it after the fact, we are reading it as a group of us from November 8th.
I'm going to listen to Psycho by Robert Bloch as a stand alone. I will add the link when I have computer access on Sunday.

Sheila wrote: "It won't be long until the Tower Teams start though."I am excited. I haven't played Tower Teams before, but it sounds like it is going to be fun!
It is fun Abbie. I enjoy the extra tasks that get thrown in. Plus the book choices are unlimited. You don't have to read book 6 in a series or whatever. Pretty different from this challenge. But I enjoy them both.
I agree Abbie!! Have you ever watched Bates Motel? I really like that TV series. What is the towers game?
I have not watched Bates Motel, I will see if it is on Netflix. Here is the Tower team link, if you want to check it
out.

You might as well sign up Ashley. I think all the rest of us have. haha. I'm a sucker for a good team challenge.
Sheila wrote: "You might as well sign up Ashley. I think all the rest of us have. haha. I'm a sucker for a good team challenge."Haha, come to think of it, you are right Sheila, Ashley is the only one of us here, who I haven't seen sign up for Tower Teams She might as well...
I don't know if I have ever seen that many people sign up for a.challenge, so it must be an awesome challenge for that many people to participate.
Ashley wrote: "Ha ha ha! ! No pressure; )"No pressure. Just the "all the other cool kids are doing it". There really isn't any pressure in the Tower challenge either. At least I haven't felt I before.
Finished
♥♥♥♥♥I was very pleasantly surprised with this. I thought because it was a classic, that it would be boring like most of the classics I've tried to read. It kept my attention the whole time, and the ending is awesome! I can see why it became as big as it did and is still relevant today.
ESSIE'S HOUSE
Completed 10/19
3 stars
I got this one free awhile ago....it was just okay, it had some good moments, and then some cheesey moments.
A woman inheritance her Uncles house and antique shops, finds a few haunted items...or is it the house. Essie died in a fire, but her doll house remains at the shop. A demon seems to want her, but Brenda will not let her go. We never did find out why the demon was there to be begin with...So the story does have a few loose ends.
Haha I've been so lazy with starting this weeks book cause I half expect this race to finish at the end of this week.
Nicole wrote: "Haha I've been so lazy with starting this weeks book cause I half expect this race to finish at the end of this week."I just checked the spot thread. There isn't any team past 75. There is one team close at 71, but that is still at least another week before they get past 75.
Week 8: Spot 60 - StandaloneFinished 10/20 3 stars
Playing Dead by Julia HeaberlinThis is a new author to me and I thought it was just OK.
Basically it boils down to do we really know who we are. The heroine of the story (Tommie) receives a letter from out of the blue from a lady sho says she thinks Tommie is her daughter who was kidnapped 30 years ago. This letter comes just as Tommie is going back home to bury her father and care for her Alzheimer inflicted mother. In going through dad's papers she finds out that maybe this unknown lady isn't some nutjob after all. Plus she finds evidence that her birth father is a mobster in prison.
Lots of ups and downs and people trying to kill her along the way. This is a story that you really have to pay attention. Maybe I was having an attention deficit week or something, but I found it hard to follow. 3 stars.

Yes indeed you did beat me this week. Let me tell you about my week so far.
This weekend we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a lunch out with our son and family but lo and behold we get to the restaurant and here sits our best buds from out of state and our best buds from in town. Well if that wasn't surprise enough, out steps our daughter from behind a booth!! We live in Illinois and Emily lives in Los Angeles so what a special day. We were totally surprised. The best present ever. I never knew I had such sneaky kids.
So Emily is here until tomorrow and she has been "forcing" me to get out and about. We had a mega shopping day yesterday and today was see the beautiful fall colors by going hiking in the bluffs along the Mississippi River. She misses the change of seasons.
By the time she lets me sit down and crash , I am too tired to read a book.
Today we have my 5 year old grandson for the day and Aunt Emily and him are carving a pumpkin. Oh yeah we hit an apple orchard .and got the pumpkin, popcorn balls and fed the chickens, bunnies and goats before the hike.
Sheila ... what a wonderful way to celebrate your 40th!My parents were married on New Year's Day 1950 and when their 40th rolled around my mother said that all she wanted was "for all you kids to be home to celebrate" (she made us sound like the Waltons - there are only three of us). Anyway that's what we did. The hotel was expensive because it was New Year's but what the heck - you only celebrate your 40th ONCE!
Enjoy this time with your family, and congratulations.
