SOLVED. Short Story: A boy whose mother buys him 7-league boots. [s]

Short story about a boy and his mother who are very poor and live in a garret. One day the boy is walking with his classmates, and they see a strange curio shop that has in the window, in addition to other improbable items, a pair of 7-league boots. All the boys want them. Later the impoverished boy is bullied and becomes very ill. In his fever he keeps ranting about the boots. The mother of an obnoxious rich classmate has gone to the store to buy the boots for her son, but the proprietor is really rude and won't sell them. Then the impoverished mother goes to the store, thinking her son will recover if he has them. The storekeeper sells them to her for practically nothing. To tell the rest of the story would involve spoilers.

It is a short story. Fantasy? Possibly a French author? I think it was in a collection, and I must have read it over 10 years ago.

I finally found it..it is in the book of short stories by Marcel Ayme called "The Man Who Walked Through Walls."
