What I remember: Half Native American girl (mother was NA and deceased, father was not and had red hair) living on a reservation (maybe), with siblings, she's the only one without red hair. Somewhere along the line she leaves and gets frostbite (on her face?) and is taken in by a painter (may have been married?) who paints her. I read this book in the early to mid 1990s, the book was from before that. It was paperback and worn a bit, so I wasn't the first in my house to read it.
