Theme: Anniversary of an event
Requirements: An attempted murder

Jack McDaniel | 280 comments Nice little Private Dick, Film Noir story, Justin. I was thinking along similar, but different, lines. Now I've stopped.

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Of all the gin joints in the galaxy, she walks into mine. Play it, Sam.

Mine's up.

message 4: by Justin (new)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Thanks guys! Oddly enough, this prompt seemed easier and the story just flowed. I've never written anything remotely noir-ish, so I thought I'd try out all the clichés that go along with it.

Sorry to cut in on your idea Jack!

Tom, good story!

message 5: by Tom (new)

Tom Olbert | 1445 comments Thanks, Justin. And, I'm glad you gave noir a shot. Your story was great fun.

Kalifer Deil | 359 comments Mine's up! Three threads if you can find them.

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Kalifer, I may never swat another fly again... Good work!

Three threads?

1) Day the Earth Stood Still
2)The Fly
3) -- Childhood's End?

Three scenes? Intro, drone conversation, and the fly?

message 14: by Justin (new)

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Nice one Chris! Thought it was going one way, then you veered another. Well played and well written!

Thanks guys. It's a rework from an older story, though I wasn't planning on using it when I came up with the theme.

The story was inspired based this knuckle head riding his bike across Town Line Road in East Northport at the age of 5 and yes, getting hit by a car. Luckily, I landed in a roll and didn't have a scratch. Hope I didn't traumatize the driver too much.

How was skiing, C? No leg breaking?

message 22: by C. (last edited Mar 19, 2019 11:11AM) (new)

C. Lloyd Preville (clpreville) | 737 comments The snow was epic but the powder pants from the'90s inexplicably shrunk. And no, no broken bones, only wind burn. Whooo hoo!

Hi Tom, 1) correct, 2) close, the genetic evolution of the fly not of man, 3) he lied about not hurting a fly, so his extermination was doubly insured.

Sounds good C. Once I reached 50, I decided my skiing days were over. It was either that, or the ice I hit my head on. I'll save the leg breaking to volleyball.

Just waiting on Timothy to vote...

Anyone live by DC? I'm heading down there on Friday.

message 26: by C. (new)

C. Lloyd Preville (clpreville) | 737 comments Hey Jot,

I live in Leesburg, VA. about 42 miles northwest of Reagan Airport in DC. Here's the map. PM me if you'd like to get together somewhere or drop by for a visit. House in horse country.

-C.

We're staying with my family in the Sheraton, Pentagon City. Would love to catch a beer with you in town. Not sure I could sneak away up by you that long, since we only have two nights to see the city.

message 28: by Timothy (new)

Timothy | 21 comments Congrats Kalifer/Jot. Sorry I didn't get a vote in, but I missed seeing the deadline and wasn't about to vote without reading the last couple entries. Health/home/work issues have made participation a challenge, but I hope to have more time for this in the coming months.
