R3: SS Five Bookworms (9)

I had to finish up a challenge by tonight and it was really tough to decide what to read - it's called the Really, Really, Really Hard Challenge and you had to pick a genre you usually don't read. I went with non fiction and I have to finish the last book tonight.
I just joined the jelly bean color challenge too but luckily you go at your own pace on that one - no deadlines!
Hope everyone is having a good week!

Good choice - surprised it's on the 3 stars list.

Gave it a 3. It was darker than I expected. Got better towards the end but really felt I had to muddle through most of it.

I was too. I had to search, it was on 23rd page.

I get tired of looking at all those pages of lists. Always happy when I can go with a book in a series!

Yeah, I normally don't do it. If a book isn't on the few few pages, I stop looking, but I'd already finished it and wanted to see if it fit for this week or not.

Glad it worked. Will be starting my book after work tomorrow.

WOW – and I thought this series couldn’t get any better! Sawyer was introduced in the last two books and finally a book is written for him. I love his type of character who basically had a bad boy childhood and overcame his obstacles to become the beloved sheriff of Lucky Harbor. Growing up, sowing his wild oats, Sawyer was in a car wreck that killed two of his buddies and left the third one angry and resentful.
Because of his past, Sawyer wants to keep his life clean. He overcompensates by helping everyone in Lucky Harbor including quirky senior citizen Lucille. Until he meets Chloe, his life is straight laced. Chloe, the youngest of the three sisters who own the B&B Inn, is the wildest of the bunch but is learning to settle down and make Luck Harbor her home. The sexual chemistry and tension between Sawyer and Chloe is what makes their story so dreamy. These two try to resist the urge to be together but keep getting pulled towards the same direction. So far, this is my favorite in the series. I have no idea why I waited so long to begin this series! The best part of this series is that Ms. Shalvis weaves in all of the characters from the last two books. It is always fun to see how their stories are playing out as well. Can’t wait for book 4!

I have quite a few series. Sometimes I seamlessly am drawn back other times it's like where am I?

Amy let me know if you need me to roll or not if everyone has their review in since I believe others besides me aren't finished yet.

I think I am good to roll tonight

This is a young adult love story of Lucy and Owen, who get stuck in an elevator together during a blackout that darkens the entire New York City.
They find out that they share the love of stars, ice cream, travelling and tacky postcards. But before anything really happens between them, besides quickening heartbeats, life whisks them to oppisite directions. Lucy moves to Great Britain and Owen hits the road with his father. All they have now are the postcards and email.
This is such an adorable book. It's the kind of YA book I'd like my daughter to read one day. It is cute and romantic and yet very real. Life is just like that. Just when you are about to move far away, you meet the love of your life. It really shows the everpresent longing that is part of every long distance relationship and how those brief moments together take on enormous meaning, because you will be reliving them the next months until you meet again. It's hard and yet sometimes you just can't give up because of the distance.
This is probably my favorite book of all that I've read this year.

Review
I enjoy books with cowboys front and center and this one didn't disappoint. There were lots of cowboys since we were privy to them being on the bull riding circuit. There were lots of injuries, treatments, travels from town to town, friends, family, laughter, dreams met, hopes dashed, tears and a war being waged by Katya both in the US and back with her Army "family" in Kandahar. There was romance and love and a happily ever after. My only disappointment is although this is the third book in the series it really is a stand alone book. I prefer when series I read really have connections to people, places and events that have been in the other books.
All in all an enjoyable and quick read!

we can read the following:
4th in a series, stand alone, or title that starts with the letter "O"

I'm going to read a stand alone I need to review

I'm not sure what I'll read at the moment. Nothing is coming to mind. I'll post what I'm reading later.

Enjoy! :)

There's always the stand alone book or the alternate.
Have fun choosing!

Roll 6 - Space 40
(4th, standalone, title O)
4th book in a series

Have fun choosing!

Nothing was coming to mind with those either, but I'm glad I'm found a book to work this week.

This is a take on A Christmas Carol with a messenger who comes to Lindsay's home to fill her present Christmas with a lot of holiday cheer and to get her away from her bah humbug attitude towards the season. To re-energize Lindsey and get her in the spirit her messenger had me on Christmas overload!
A quick read reminiscent to me of Debbie Macomber's Christmas books and her wayward angels!

I had finished my last book for this challenge and hadn't started another one until I saw what we rolled. Got home from work and started it and today had a lot of reading time available. Plus I needed it for a review so it worked out well.
With this challenge I'm doing eight all together and feeling stressed by those deadlines too. Have to pare them back I guess next year.
Guess you couldn't have a quick read this week since you're book isn't out yet.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Great job, JoAnne! Challenges can be stressful with deadlines. Most of mine are either quarterly or annually so it's not so bad this year. I am very selective on what team challenges that I sign up for.

This is the only team challenge and is the easiest. I just signed up for the Jelly Bean challenge where you have to match colors on books and titles/authors to fit but that one has no deadline.
I finally put in the info on the 100 genre one that ends December 31 and found I have 4 categories complete - yay - but still deciding on the 5th one so I'm currently doing two of them to see which I can finish first.
As one of my friends told me - reading should be fun (it is) and I shouldn't stress myself with doing challenges but I find those fun too just guess I shouldn't sign up for so many but they all sound like such fun!

Great - hadn't seen you post what you planned on reading.

Sounds like another heavy read. Can't wait to see how you like it. May have to add it to my TBR pile.

This is a book I randomly picked up at the library. I read it in 2 days, which kind of tells how into it I got. The pages just flew by.
The protagonist is Lisa Kallisto, a tired mother of three, who runs an animal rescue centre. Lucinda, a friend of her teenage daughter, daughter of Lisa's best friend Kate, goes missing and it turns out she was supposed to spend the night at Lisa's house, but Lisa forgot to let her mother know that her daughter is sick and that Lucinda can't come. Somewhere between school and home Lucinda disappears. It's a case of crossed wires and missed communication, but a girl is missing and Lisa feels it is her fault. Lucinda is the second 13 year old girl that has gone missing in the area. The first one turned up after just a few hours, half naked and saying she was drugged and raped. Everyone fears the same man has taken Lucinda.
This was a bit different from your average mystery. Kind of similar to Sister by Rosamund Lupton. It's a story of a friendship, trust and the enormous guilt Lisa carries with her. How can you make it up to your best friend when you lose her only daughter?
The subject matter was uncomfortable. There are bits written through the eyes of the perpetrator and I felt disgusted by him. I didn't really know what this book was about so I was already way into the story when the nature of the crimes was revealed and I wanted to keep reading despite of feeling sick to my stomach. These are just little flashes of what goes on in this evil man's head, not the main point of the story, but really disgusting. Just a heads up, if you feel like reading this book. It kind of stays with you in the same way horrible news stories do.
The story is kind of unexpected, full of subtle twists and turns and I suspected so many different people throughout the book and still was blown away by the end. Which is great! I don't know what keeps me from giving this 5 stars. Maybe it is the disgust element. 4.5 stars is perhaps closer to the truth. It is a really good mystery.

Deacon is the fourth book in the Unfinished Heroes series and I must say I enjoyed it. I do like Kirsten Ashley's books and this was more of the same. I liked reading and seeing the happy ending for Deacon and Cassidy.

I give you credit for doing both at the same time especially if the roles are entirely different. I did the SSS the first time and I was so stressed trying to find my book, read it and review it before the next roll of the dice was set to be done. Gave it up when they offered the one book a week challenge.

I've found it okay and as long as I start the book on roll day or the next. I finish them in plenty of time. I can then read the SS book in between.

I'm loving this series. They so fun and easy to read, even when dealing with hard issues. I enjoyed the story of Ty and Mallory. Love the town of Lucky Harbor. Can't wait to read the next of Amy and Matt's.
