Wow I would love to have no interruptions - maybe when I retire some day! I'm happy when I get to read for a couple of hours in a row unless it's one of my sleepless nights then I definitely don't get interrupted since everyone else is asleep!

Have a great weekend. Hope you have more books to read in the pipeline.

Debbie (Doc) | 1496 comments Space 25 - 2nd book in seriesThe Sweetest Thing

The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis

Completed 9/22
5 stars
I feel that I have met some new best friends. Lucky Harbor appears to be a small place where I would love to live. I am not an emotional person, but I caught myself getting teary eyed on more than one occasion and then laughing out loud during other times. The Sweetest Thing is book 2 in The Lucky Harbor Series, and I will definitely read book 3 soon.

Although this book is based on Ford and Tara’s story, it included all of the other characters as well. The sisters are beginning to get really close, and we are introduced to Mia. Tara and Ford had a sordid past that is difficult for Tara to overcome. Seventeen years later, Tara returns to Lucky Harbor to help renovate the inn that the three sister’s mother left them at her death. In book 1, Tara wanted to get into Lucky Harbor, renovate, and then sell as soon as possible. However, Tara is beginning to see that her sisters are truly family and perhaps Lucky Harbor is a place that she can call home.

That's what I love about Lucky Harbor - we are reunited with other characters. Love Jill Shalvis and her books.

We may hit 30 in our next roll - as long as it's 5 or more. You can wait to read it then if you'd like.

Last time we played almost every book I read was part of the same series by Kat Martin. It was great especially since I read them almost one after the other.

I read about 1/2 my book yesterday. Stayed home sick today with dizzyness and staying home tomorrow too. Already have a drs appt for the morning. Haven't been able to focus enough to read or do things on the computer except answer a few messages.

It's nice when it works out series wise.
I got up to Kat Martin's newest release for her series - they were all romantic suspense.
My library has it on order so I'm waiting for it to come in.

I never get to read much when hubby drives since I'm the navigator. How far did you drive?
We went back and forth from CT to St Louis twice a year while our son was in college at Wash U in St Louis. Would load up the Pilot and go.
17 hours if we did it non stop which we did twice. Most of the time we'd sleep somewhere in OH to cut the drive. Always got there in 2 days that way.

Debbie (Doc) | 1496 comments JoAnne,

We actually only went 4 hours to the mountains in TN. Our hotel had a really nice balcony overlooking the Smokey Mountains, and it was a beautiful day on Saturday. I was able to not only read in the car but sat outside and read for a couple of hours as well. We have been thee so many times that hubby doesn't need me to navigate.

I can't imagine being in the car for 17 hours. I can handle about 9 and that's pretty much it!

The first time we were driving back after leaving him off as a freshman we drove too long and before we knew it it was super late (early morning) and we were only about 6 or so hours from home so we didn't want to spend money on a hotel. We stopped at several rest stops and took 1/2 hour cat naps.

The second time was when we dropped him Jr year and we were expecting a hurricane (Irene) and wanted to beat it home so we could batten down the hatches and not be stuck in NJ or PA for days. When one drove, the other slept. We only stopped for food, gas and the bathroom and made it home with only a few hours to spare. We basically threw him and his stuff out of the car and told him we were leaving soon as it was all in his apt. I cancelled our hotel in St Louis and we headed home. He had to get permission to move in that Friday since normal move in was the next day.

Sounds like a nice weekend. We used to go to Nashville and Kingsport TN on business.

Review
Enjoyable second book to the series. Picks up right where book 1 leaves off and we continue with the Wyllies seeking land for their homes/businesses in KY. Vivid descriptions and my emotions were engaged throughout. I look forward to the third and final book in the series but hope there will be a fourth.
If you like historical romances especially those involving settling the west this series is for you.

Minttu (menthae) | 143 comments Week 4 - alternate

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
By Elizabeth Gilbert

Read: 25th Sept 2014
Rating: 3.5 stars (on GR just 3)

Review:

Eat Pray Love is one woman's quest to finding the balance between indulging in the good things in life (namely food, wine and sex) and opening herself to God. Elizabeth Gilbert has just gone through a messy divorce and a failed on-off passionate love of her life relationship right after the divorce. Everything is falling apart including herself. So she decides to do something drastic and spend one year abroad; 4 months in Italy, India and Indonesia.

I've wanted to read this book for a long time and now seemed like a great time. I've gone through a breakup myself just 1 and half years ago and have since tried to piece my life and my identity together again. I was eager to read how someone else has done it.

I absolutely loved the first part of the book set in Italy. I'm learning italian at the moment and everything in this book about the beauty of the language and the Italian culture rang true to me. The descriptions are brilliant and I really felt like I was transported to Italy with her.

The India part I struggled with. Perhaps it was the concept of transcendental meditation that was too out there for me. I meditate myself but I just found the descriptions of Liz's meditation experiences a bit strange. Richard from Texas was the best part of the India chapter providing much needed comic relief.

The Indonesia chapter was about finding the balance and I could relate once again a bit more as the story returned back to reality from the land of gurus, mantras, prayer, meditation and blue pearls of divinity.

I really struggled with rating this book because there were parts that I loved, absolutely brilliantly written chapters and I even scribbled down some quotes because I felt so inspired. But then the next 100 pages were a battle to get through. I think this book needs to be read in a certain mindset and perhaps by taking time with it. Perhaps it needs to be set aside for a while and thought through before progressing to the next chapter. I hurried along with it and at times really wanted to just skip forward.

It is an interesting story and beautifully written, but it does move a bit slow at times and if you are not at all into meditation the India chapter will probably be a quite a hard read.
