R3: SS Reading 24/7 (7)

I'm only a couple chapters away from the end of I Am Legend. Heading out to work now and I have an early shift in the morning. So my review will be posted Thursday evening most likely by 5pm or 6pm PST.
Looks like most everyone is finished with their books! Great job team!

BookI Am Legend by Richard Matheson
Finished: 9/3
Rating & Review: ★★★★
An entirely different experience than the movie. In fact, the only thing that correlated was the main character's name and location. The plot, the vampires, and Robert Neville himself are completely other beings from their movie counterparts.
For a vampire enthusiast like me, this was preferable. The book explores traditional vampire mythos using contemporary science to explain not only how they come to be, but also how, in modern times, how our world could be devastatingly overrun by them. It satisfied the purist in me and excited the part that is always looking for logical and rational explanations for the extraordinary.
While I enjoyed it immensely, I will admit portions dragged on and on, lacking meaningful story and plot progression. The momentary monotony however, was vastly overshadowed by the grounding conclusion. The point this entire novella is leading up to was both unexpected and hugely thought provoking.
This "moral of the story" will stick with me for quite some time.

No, it was perfect.
I was whining to Melissa last week that Scavenger Hunt was forcing me to read 10 m-m books a month to the exclusion of my other reads. So adding GB would be piling on top. Besides, I haven't even finished the books on the last GB list.
So thank you!

LOL, only because of kids activities, homework and the holidays are already weighing on my mind.
Plus, TV shows will return in 2-3weeks, along with football & basketball.

All valid points. I'm thinking I'm going to pull out, also. I totally didn't think about holiday stress. I don't need to add to it :D

I don't know if you all saw Stacey Jo's post, but she's doing the spreadsheet for this quarter and you may want to PM her to make sure she noted your deleted posts.

This is more vampire noir than popular vampire. That's a good thing. Joe Pitt is a rogue vampyre. He's kinda like a PI/Hired Gun/Handyman. He stumbles upon some shamblers (zombies) and has to track down the carrier while doing a job looking for a missing girl all while being harassed by the Society and the Coalition. Soon he discovers the connection between all of them. It's a world of being a pawn and being a free agent, living his life and fighting the vyrus.

Review: So I didn't really get into this book, but I rarely like the first book in a series. It reminded me too much of Twilight, and that book erked me a lot. I don't care for the "I'm only attracted to assholes" logic or the "He's openly hostile to me so that must mean he likes me." I'll keep reading but it's not my cup of tea. I'm more of the Ilona Andrews/Patricia Briggs "He's an asshole so I'm going to annoy the hell out of him because it's fun" type of girl.

Read: Succubus Blues by Richelle Mead
Series: Book 1, Georgina Kincaid
Finished: 9/8/14
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This one came very highly recommended by a blogger friend, but I could not get into Georgina. I couldn't wrap my head around whether to feel sorry for her or roll my eyes at her. Her back story did nothing to garner my sympathy and I couldn't believe she'd fall for a sleaze ball like Roman was CLEARLY going to turn out to be. But I liked Seth and the rest of the side characters. I usually give new series at least two books before I give up on them, and I am curious to see where Mead takes this world. I guess it was just okay for me.
I just started my book :D
But good job Suzanne & Logan!
@Logan, if you didn't love this book, you probably won't love the series because it's just about the same for the rest.
I didn't love it, it was okay but I read the whole series for a group read, and i don't think it ever got past a 3.5 for any of the 6 books.

I can't comment whether or not this was a good book, it just was not my cup of tea (pun intended). It was a very random book I stumbled upon and, although British, which I'm not really a fan of, I thought I'd give it a go.
The book is about the servants of Hexam Place. Maids, Au Pairs, Nannies, Chauffeurs, etc. They come together to create the Saint Zita Society so they can get together and discus what goes on in the neighborhood. There is also a lot of who's sleeping with who, who's getting divorced/married, you know, gossip. And in the middle of it all, there is a murder of a famous actor.
For me, there were too many characters and I kept getting lost with each minor one that would pop up. I also felt that, besides the murder, there really wasn't a real story to follow.

Week 2: Space 17
Book: Deeper (Book 1, Caroline & West) by Robin York
Finished: 9/11
Rating & Review: ★★★★
Caroline was a college student who decided that after 3 yrs with her first boyfriend . He decides to get revenge by posting intimate pictures of her on social media. Caroline was devastated and confused as to what she could do because she now feels like anyone she'll meet, any potential job opportunity or even family friends would have seen her naked.
Resident bad boy West encourages Caroline to stop hiding and fight back by living her life. They develop a friendship but she learns West has deeper issues than she does. Can she help him live again, the way he has helped her?
This book felt like it was fast paced in some arenas, then slow in other areas. I liked Caroline and I liked West. They were both survivors. Caroline was betrayed by her ex boyfriend and West was betrayed by his parents, both had to learn to trust again. Nice story and I look coward to book 2.

BookSoulless by Gail Carriger
Finished: 9/11
Rating ★★★★
More fun than I've had with vampires and werewolves in a long time!
Carriger has most delightfully mixed the supernatural with all the lovely witty quirk of steampunk, Victorian England. Our heroine, Miss Alexia Terabotti is a spunky, strong, bluestocking you can really cheer for. I find, it is more common that I feel the heroines of similar novels are wishy washy at best. Alexia was definitely a breath of fresh air and I can't wait to continue reading about her and the rough around the edges, Lord Maccon.

Probably not. I'm going out of town 9/17-9/24 - right when picking is happening! Plus all of that picking got a bit overwhelming, so I'm not as gung-ho about it anymore. Making 65+ book choices is hard!
