Amy*skye.rhyme | 58 comments Can you guys help me? I recently created a list with this theme but haven't gotten many ideas yet. I'll add your recommendations to the list or you could view it yourself here:

Coming Out of the Coffin - Paranormals Reveal Themselves to Humans as a Group
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...

Here's what I'm looking for:

Fiction of any genre where paranormal creatures are exposed to humanity on a massive scale. Maybe they chose to finally come out the closet as a group or someone screwed up badly in public and they just can't mind-wipe or kill enough people to contain it. Both positive or negative reactions are fine. I want to see the shock, fear, fascination, wars or acceptance. It can also be books where they fight for equal rights. Good examples are "Going Under" by Lauren Dane and "Kitty Goes to Washington" by Carrie Vaughn.

If this theme occurs throughout multiple books in a series, add ONLY the book in which it actually starts happening OR the book that spends the most time dealing with the fallout. Please don't list the first book unless it's the one that contains the big reveal.

(This list is NOT for the many books where just one shifter comes out to their human mate, etc.)

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Ok, so this happens big time in the Damons Mountains collection by TS Joyce https://www.goodreads.com/series/2168.... It may look intimidating but the books are all short, most are 100-150 pages and I think all are available on KU.

The big reveal happens a few books in with this one Bear the Burn (Fire Bears, #2) by T.S. Joyce , but I would highly recommend starting from the beginning and read in order as there is really interesting background to the big reveal and the after-effects on both the human and shifter communities, both in public and behind the scenes, are felt throughout each series in the 'collection' as a whole.

Also, the overarching main plot of the Shifters Unbound series by Jennifer Ashley https://www.goodreads.com/series/4735... which is about the after effects of shifters being made public and their fight for freedom from their 'enslavement' 20 years ago at the hands of the humans, but also in some part at the hands of the fae who created them via genetic engineering hundreds of years ago. Their fight is part of the plot of each full-length book and many of the novellas.

You have a few in your shelves right now.

Suzanne Wright Feral Sins (The Phoenix Pack, #1) by Suzanne Wright Feral Sins the coming out isn’t apparent but it’s implied since some of the humans have formed groups that hunt shifter. It’s really suttle but probably slightly off what you’re looking for.

Karen Marie Moning Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Darkfever though the coming out doesn’t happen until book 5.

Molly Harper Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs (Jane Jameson, #1) by Molly Harper Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs it explains the big reveal at the beginning so the books are the after effect of them coming out,

Laurann Dohner’s New Species. Justice (New Species, #4) by Laurann Dohner Justice though I’m not sure if this Paranormal more than perhaps sci-fi. There was a corporation experimenting on humans where they’ve spliced their DNA with other species until one lab technician exposed them and now they are thrust into the world. The stories are the after math of it but I believe one of them details the first exposure. I just can’t recall that book at the moment.

Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicals might fit in this catagory. Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1) by Kresley Cole Poison Princess it starts off as a typical teenage cheerleader contemp but by chapter 13 it evolves into a dystopian/apocalyptic story. It further evolves around chapter 30 into a paranormal adventure/fantasy. Here’s a book trailer for book two but it explains the whole series best. http://www.thearcanachronicles.com Still with few people out there, I’m not sure there’s much of a big reveal, but large groups do become aware of the arcana all over the series (like in the fourth book when Evie steps in a Roman coliseum to fight in front of a large audience). Or like in book three when Evie has to save Jack and Selena while confronting three armies. Book five, she escapes to a haven on the edge of one of the ocean’s trenches and well eventually she exposes herself to that whole place of people. It’s a run by one certain minor but it’s still a big reveal.

I’m not sure all of them fit but they come close or near/around it for the most part. I hope I helped somewhat.

I noticed that you have McCrieve on that list. I can somewhat kind of see that. But if you go with McCrieve you might want to also go with Shadow's Claim (Immortals After Dark, #13; The Dacians, #1) by Kresley Cole Shadow's Claim since he is a vampire from a clan that’s suppose to be mythical. So when they guy appears at a death tournament to win the queen and rule a group of people, that could be considered the big reveal.

kittykat, thanks so much. We've both commented on T.S. Joyce before, but I had no clue that one of the newer books I haven't read yet would be just what I'm looking for! I'll read this first. Also, I can't believe I forgot how well Jennifer Ashley's series fits, especially since the very 1st one is actually a lawyer representing a shifter in court. Duh. I've already read the whole series though, unfortunately.

Thank you for telling me which book in the series most applies. I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't mind starting from the middle of a series then going back to the beginning if I'm interested enough to want more details.

I don't think it was me that added McCrieve to the list. I can only assume it's a match until I've read it for myself. Since you said it might not really qualify, can I ask if there is a dramatic exposure to humans as a group or is it one of those where someone reveals their species to a newly found mate or something like that?

You're suggestions are great, I've read a couple of Molly Harper books before. And I've read many of the New Species books by Laurann Dohner, I think they apply, sure.

The Darkfever series I haven't actually read yet but I've been meaning to. Thanks for pointing out which book is approximately where the theme really kicks in! This series is one I really think I should start from the beginning though. I've noticed that it's a super-popular series.

You're welcome . TBH I originally started at this one Blackwing Defender as it somehow popped up in my Amazon feed (and feline shifters are my favorites being the lifelong mad at lady that I am lol) and read the rest of that trilogy and then because I realized there was more to the story, after looking it up on GR went back to Bloodrunner Dragon and read THAT series (which is the first of the kids' stories - up to book 22 are all the parents) and at that point I was sold on the overall plot and wanted to know more about how it all began which took me to the series page where I followed the suggested reading order from there. Now that I'm up to date, I collect each 'mini' series and then binge read them as each one comes out.

I see what you said above, but I do urge you to start at the top simply because the books are so short that it won't take long to get to the reveal and then you can follow the story organically from there...

[well I did try lol]!!!

Well not to spoil too much, I guess the h is exposed to the realization her mother was a scubus and there is a whole world (the Lore) that she didn’t know about. She thought she was human all of her life. She finds out her dad captures and tortures an entires group of non humans... so maybe that fits.

It could also be that MacCrieve discovers that the sucubi are a race of people in another dimension that is completely different than what he expected. But I think this one is weak since McCrieve has been around long enough to about other dimensions of different races.

So maybe the h’s the reason it showed up? You can deside. Bonus though, most of her books can be located at the library. Just saying 😏

But be warned, the book made me cry.

One more thing about Darkfever if you’re curios (view spoiler)

Amy*skye.rhyme | 58 comments Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the details!

I'm gonna say McCrieve doesn't match simply because it sounds like only a main character discovers a hidden world vs. the hidden world is revealed or discovered by the entire human race, or something similar.

I'm gonna read Darkfever and that particular T.S. Joyce series. And yes, I'll start at the beginning of both without frustration now that I know when I can expect the plot I'm looking forward to.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude | 398 comments Amy*skye.rhyme, I hope it is worth the wait and fulfils your requirements :)
