SOLVED. YA - Missing/Lost/Runaway Siblings. [s]

Okay this is probably going to be very vague. But I’ll try my best.

I recall reading this book probably between fifth to seventh grade. So somewhere around 2004-2008ish.

I feel like the main character was a female and her little brother was with her. They were alone and traveling. Either running away from someone/something or looking for someone/something.

The part that really sticks out to me was at one point she went into a store to buy food, but only had enough money to get the bread from the day old shelf.

Unfortunately, that’s all my book amnesia brain can come up with currently.
