SOLVED. New middle grade, starts 'The best horse I ever had...' [s]

I picked up a new middle grade book in the store the other day, it was hardcover and the first line was something like, 'The best horse I ever had...' but I believe it was a fantasy novel and wasn't just about horses.

I combed through the middle grade section again today, looking to purchase it, but it was gone and the worker had no idea what book I was talking about. I don't remember what the cover looked like sadly.
