What happens to Friday's Father?

When Friday is finally reunited with his father after the fight sequence with 'the savages' on the main beach, Friday reluctantly bids is father goodbye when the Portuguese and Spanish crew decide to go and alert Friday's tribe on the other side of the Island. Another battle ensues shortly afterwards and Friday and Crusoe leave in the ship for the UK. Crusoe doesn't mention what happens to Fridays father, nor does he mention Fridays thoughts on missing his father. Is this a ploy for the sequel or just a simple omission not picked up by the editors at time of printing do you think? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
