I already want to see more interactions between Alina and the Darkling so that they can develop some kind of relationship (which ends up being romantic, if what I've heard is accurate). It made me mad when I realized that after the incident in the Fold, Alina wakes up on the same side she started on. Are they ever going to cross it? (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[The Darkling kissed Alina?! I totally wasn't expecting that but I love it! I really like their relationship for some reason; maybe because I really like the Darkling. He seems to be some kind of anti-hero, but I'm not sure yet. But why was the Darkling surprised that he kissed her? Was he really not planning on doing it?
All Alina is doing in the book so far seems to be training at the Palace. Hopefully something exciting happens soon. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[So that's where the stag on the new cover of this book comes from… wearing the antlers as a necklace would cause Alina to be completely under the Darkling's orders, or something like that. I didn't know that Mal was such an extraordinary tracker. Did they mention that in the beginning at all?
Also, I'm glad that Mal is back in the picture with Alina. They make a great pair! (hide spoiler)]

I knew Mal wasn't actually going to die (well, that's what I guessed) but I had no idea that Alina wasn't going to stay at the Palace after she ran away or betray the Darkling on the fold like she did. I'm not rooting for Alina and Mal to be together, so the ending wasn't exactly what I wanted, but it was still really good. And there's no doubt now to me that the Darkling is totally evil! Chapter 16 (view spoiler)[I'm confused as to how the Grisha plans to use Alina's power as his own? If she kills the stag, isn't it then her amplifier? How does he get to control her power?

Also I'm confused about amplifiers in general.. How do they know what animals are amplifiers, and what part of the animal they need to harness that power? (hide spoiler)]

I'm so glad that Alina got ahold of her power (although still confused how that works) and that she saved Mal! I wouldn't be able to take the paranoia of knowing whether the Darkling was alive or not. (hide spoiler)]
Review: I really enjoyed this book! Glad to finally be a part of the Grisha world, as the expectation is so high. And it did not disappoint! It could even be a 5-star for me, but for the fact that I got a little confused in places. It did answer the questions, but one part of it ate at me: (view spoiler)[how come Alina was so quick to believe Baghra and trust her? Just because she says the Darkling's her son, and she says that it will happen...? (hide spoiler)] It just didn't make sense. It was too quick of a turning point in the story. And I feel there weren't enough hints at first, to make it believable. I loved the whole idea though, of all of the different groups of Grisha (although I needed to keep searching up who did what and what colours their kefta were), with all of their different powers. Totally predictable though, how (view spoiler)[Alina's the only Sun Summoner, the only person who can beat back the Fold, and at the end the Darkling. I don't get how she suddenly tapped into the stag's power so rapidly. (hide spoiler)] I also knew, right from the start, that (view spoiler)[it would be Mal and Alina together. I kind of veered off this course as we were introduced to the Darkling, but as soon as he appeared back at the palace, I knew. (hide spoiler)] I really enjoyed this book, and will be reading the second one. Not sure I'll like it as much though, what with (view spoiler)[the romance so clearly laid out now. (hide spoiler)]
