For bet... can 'challenge' work? I run across these bet type books all the time and now am at a loss... lol

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Hi Sarah - post the précis or the book so I can see what you mean.

message 103: by Heather (new)

Heather | 415 comments I just wanted to check with the wealthy part, can this be stated in the title or precis or is that strictly tagged only?

message 104: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments I’ll take title and précis as well 🙂

message 106: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 307 comments How wealthy do they have to be to count?
I have an blurb that says the MC is a "rich playboy", but I wasn't sure if that was considered "wealthy" for this challenge.
Book in question: Rogue Sign

'Rich' is fine. I'd accept that book.

That would be helpful :)

"Ashish Patel didn’t know love could be so…sucky. After he’s dumped by his ex-girlfriend, his mojo goes AWOL. Even worse, his parents are annoyingly, smugly confident they could find him a better match. So, in a moment of weakness, Ash challenges them to set him up."

From the book There's Something About Sweetie

message 109: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Clysdale | 112 comments Does the wealthy main character need to live a wealthy life or just have money?

If so does harry potter counts he inherited his parents 2.6 million dollars in the first book. So if I read a harry potter book would it count towards the challenge?

message 110: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Sarah - I’ll allow that book :)

message 111: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Samantha - you will need a tag or something in the précis for Harry Potter to work.

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2093 comments Would an earl be considered wealthy for this week?

message 113: by ⚣Michaelle⚣ (last edited Apr 08, 2019 05:43PM) (new)

⚣Michaelle⚣ (michaelle) | 1187 comments I asked about that on a previous round and a title didn't count then (because so many stories of the ton have indebted or poor but titled individuals looking for well-off spouses).

If you're looking to see if The Ruin of a Rake counts, there are two tags that might qualify it: "rich-people-s-problems" and "lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous".

message 114: by Eugenia (new)

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2093 comments I wanted to relisten to The Lawrence Browne Affair

message 115: by Eugenia (new)

Eugenia (eugereviews) | 2093 comments Would From a Jack to a King work for a bet? The blurb states that a famous celebrity wins a porn star in a poker game.

⚣Michaelle⚣ (michaelle) | 1187 comments Eugenia wrote: "I wanted to relisten to The Lawrence Browne Affair"

Lawrence Browne has "wealthy", "wealth", "lifestyles-of-the-rich-and-famous" and "rich-mc". Each 1 time.

message 117: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments There needs to be a wealth tag or be clear they aren’t just titled but actually wealthy in the précis/title.

message 118: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Jack to King - look for a tag to make sure the writer is wealthy...

message 119: by Calila (last edited Apr 11, 2019 07:00AM) (new)

Calila | 2746 comments Jane would "wealthy donor" or "built a billion-dollar business" in the blurb be enough? It's an ARC so helpful shelves/tags are sparse.

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Rule update:

Q: Can I DNF a book?
To DNF a book you must have:
* read at least 50% of the book
* the minimum page requirement of 100 pages must have been read in addition to having completed 50% (that is, if the book is only 105pp in total, you will need to have read through to and including page 100. If the book is 400pp, you need to read 200pp before you DNF the book.)
* note in your review that it was a DNF and explain why
* rate accordingly (no higher than 2 stars) and shelve the book as DNF
* in the 'completion post', you will need to note the pages read out of the total pages.

If it is a current week book, you can of course change the book. Once we have rolled into the next call, your book selection is set and cannot be altered.

Hint from before the game started: the challenge lasts 11 weeks, roughly 77 days depending on when I make the first call (Wednesday or Friday in the first week). A book added the day before the challenge starts will qualify for this category throughout the full length of the game.

To show how it qualifies, you must note the date that the book was added to your TBR list and how many days it has been on your list from today (19 April 2019).

Option 2
Book chosen from a team member's shelf that was read on the date below or more recently and rated at least 3 stars.

Either one is fine so long as they are exclusive shelves in the top part of your shelves.

message 130: by ⚣Michaelle⚣ (new)

⚣Michaelle⚣ (michaelle) | 1187 comments Yep, they're exclusive; if it's on one it's NOT on the other.

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Once you believe your team has finished all your reading for this challenge, the Captain or team member is to post in this thread to say you are finished. Please state your team.

I will then check the posts to make sure all is in order before any announcement is made.

Jane (PS) | 24350 comments Captains and team members - in this final week I do not point out errors in posts.

I have only checked one team so far, but already I have seen a selection post that doesn't meet all the requirements.

So please double and triple-check all elements to your posts so that if your team posts a hopeful win in this thread, I don't have to say 'sorry - the posts are not all correct'.

***

PS regarding the need to 'link to the list' - so long as the list name and position is included in the post, I do not require the actual link
