Link to All Aboard to Hogwarts Rules
Team Two Scored
The game is played by two teams of seven people (three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker), each flying on a broomstick.
Players attempt to throw soccer-ball-size balls, called Quaffles, through three large hoop goals at either end of the pitch. Each goal is worth ten points and catching the Golden Snitch is worth one-hundred and fifty points.
The game ends when the Snitch is caught or an agreement is reached between the captains of both teams. Some games can go on for many days if the Snitch is not caught. The record, according to Quidditch Through the Ages, is six months, although no one caught the Snitch.

Muggle Final Lineup:
Almeta ~ Referee
Anna ~ Keeper
Carol ~ Seeker
Jannene ~ Chaser
Laura ~ Beater
Poongothai ~ Chaser
TrudyAn ~ Beater
Valerie ~ Chaser

Hello teammates! I took the liberty to start our team's thread.

Any other ideas for a team name? Who can volunteer for scorekeeper? Do you want to try and cover different tasks (we don't have to) or shall we just pick our own and allow duplicates?

Carol (carolfromnc) | 401 comments Thanks, Alberta!

I’m a capital L loser when it comes to team names, so ...

I tend to be on the side of everyone picking their own tasks rather than coordinating, so we can abandon books that aren’t working for us without feeling guilt about completing a task. But if others disagree, I’ll follow team sentiment.

Good point.

When we did the October 2018 Popsugar Toppler a bunch of people extended the challenge to cover everything leftover afterward and on their own.

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Thanks for setting up the thread, Almeta.

I have some tasks picked out that will work with library books I have now, which is great because work is so busy now. Im also voting for just doing whichever tasks appeal, for this reason.

I love the titles in colors tasks, they're helping me fit a lot of books on my shelves in to this! Hogwarts is a great idea for a toppler theme!

Yes. I slotted a lot of books in those title color categories also.

message 6: by Carol (new)

Carol (carolfromnc) | 401 comments It's always so fascinating to me to see how my teammates approach these. I am rarely if ever successful with cover-art tasks, although the title color categories might be a first-ever one that I can do. I look for theme tasks and this one has murder and translated fiction, so I'm golden, lol.

message 7: by Debra (new)

Debra (debra_t) | 6542 comments Almeta, fix your team's name. It say "Tean" instead of "Team." That's the only help you get from me! lol

message 8: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments Thanks for setting up this thread, Almeta.

I’d also prefer for each of us to choose our own tasks this time, and leave coordination to a future toppler that requires it. I own several short(ish) books that fit the tasks, so will have lots of choice once we begin.

As for team names, I’ve had very limited Hogwarts exposure, so I have no idea. Google has lots of suggestions, though! The Fizzing Whizbees?

Hi everyone! Thanks Almeta for setting up our team thread.

I'm very happy to keep score as long as no one wants anything fancy! It should be very straight forward - 10 points per book. I live in the UK so would update our scores first thing in the AM and last thing in the PM UK time.

I definitely prefer the idea of everyone just picking whichever tasks they wish to read for. It just makes it a bit easier I think ;-).

Hooray! You are correct, it should be fairly simple. Thanks for volunteering.

message 16: by Almeta (last edited Feb 18, 2019 03:10PM) (new)

Almeta (menfrommarrs) | 11456 comments It looks as though we are all (missing Valerie) agreed to choose any tasks that we wish, rather than trying to cover them all.

This certainly makes it simple for me because I do have some duplicate task possibilities. Perhaps I will do both!

Here is my potential plan:
The Space Merchants - scarlet title
photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.png photo booktree_zpsxlofir9w.jpgSummoned to Thirteenth Grave-mythical creature
☊☊Mr Loverman - discrimination - hat on the cover
 photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.pngThe Affair murder
 photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.pngThe Infinite Blacktop murder
photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.pngThe Jungle Books -a snake -black cobras Nag and Nagaina
photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.pngAn Absolutely Remarkable Thing yellow title
photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.pngThe Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, - scarlet title
 photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.png☊☊To the Lighthouse Scotland
photo 3D_zpsj3ktwnco.png photo booktree_zpsxlofir9w.jpgϟA Line Made by Walking - artist
☊ϟWalking the Bones- murder
photo booktree_zpsxlofir9w.jpgShylock Is My Name scarlet title

☊AUDIO

I will be mostly unavailable on both Saturdays, so this scheme is pretty ambitious.

I had to double check! I am going to listen to it on CDs. The title is definitely black. Has the red background like the others though. Why change the graphic? It's a mystery.

I like looking for the theme tasks as well. They cause me to branch into unexplored reading. Had a difficult time for this set. "murder" is easy for me to find, as "mystery" is my favorite genre. I also looked for "translated fiction" and did not find any on my TBR that wasn't a doorstop.☻

I still need to do a bit of gophering but I am definitely going to read Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow and I may also listen to one of the Harry Potter books. I'm not a great audiobooker but if it is a re-read, I can handle it.

Hotel World has no more renewals so whoops I have to read it now. It starts off with quite a bang and it's a fast read, so it should be a good Toppler choice, Almeta. Knowing you, you could probably take a deep breath and finish by the exhale 💙

I've never read Ali Smith before, but I like!

My pleasure ;-). I'm not going to get a lot of books read, (I think 2 maximum) so I thought I would lend my hand at keeping score.

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Katie at Books and Things on YouTube has raved about that book. I've found so many great authors I may not have tried without her terrific reviews, but that book was on my radar because of her and when I saw your message, I decided to go ahead and borrow the book and cd from the library so I'll be really curious what you think!

Here is the video where Katie mentions the book, if anyone else is interested. And if you're looking for a terrific channel to follow for reviews of modern and Victorian lit, this is the one. Katie is great. And her recommendations are wonderful and helpful, with terrific explanations of why she responded to the book as she did.

Her review of this book is at 12:20 inthe clip:

Well I've been talked into the book!

AND thanks for the link, which I have bookmarked and will be following. It will take my American ear a while to adjust, but I like her enthusiasm.

Thank you for sharing everything.

message 39: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Yay, I'm so glad! I love her enthusiasm. I never thought I'd read Anthony Trollope in my life, but because of her, I have (and I really enjoy him). I've read so many books in the past year because of her. 💙😀

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Laura - I am haunting the toppler threads and checked out your link and listened to her review. I have bookmarked her too.

I agree with Almeta's comment.

Thanks for the book title for my TBR list and a new reviewer.

message 41: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Thanks, Cherie, really glad to hear this! I've been enjoying spreading the word about Katie. She's also an aspiring writer and now works in fiction as an editor (a dream job for her), and I'm so happy for her. She's really talented and yet so young, and as you've all been saying, her enthusiasm is so contagious!

I also hope we all really enjoy that book. 😀🌞

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Welcome to our new members, Jannene and Poongothai!

The toppler is almost here. I have to work for a good part of the day today but I plan to start with one of these two books, hopefully by tonight: The War that Saved My Life which is children's lit but I've heard really good things about it or Crooked Heart. Both of my copies have scarlet title letters and the first one has someone discriminated against also. Both are WWII settings I think.

Anyway, good luck to us, have fun reading! ❤️

Hi Jannene and Poongothai! Welcome to the team! I am your keeper; I will be keeping track of all our team points!

I've just had to check when we can actually start - noon today ET time, which is 5pm for me. Really looking forward to it - although no gophering has taken place...

I know I will definitely start with Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow.

message 46: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments We’re such a quiet team! Less chatting, more reading. I have a stack of eight books that fit the tasks, and will hopefully be able to read half of them.

I will be starting with The Book of Aron, which is short so I’ll likely finish today, and Did You Ever Have A Family.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

4 minutes to go!

Should a reporting thread be set-up? I see Team 5 have one. Just not sure what should be done ;-)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments 🔊 Readers, open your books! The toppler has begun.

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

Off we go! I'm starting Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow for Hufflepuff Founder A book that includes magic.

message 50: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3364 comments Anna, dying to see what you think of that one.

I think I may be starting instead with a book that just came in from library hold: A Pocketful of Crows A Pocketful of Crows by Joanne M. Harris , all in gold. Fairytale retelling with beautiful illustrations! Hoping it's a fast read. I'll be reading it at lunch then back to the grind lol.

Enjoy, everyone!
