Natasa (fantasista46) | 24 comments It's book where kids where kids' grades in school decide how wealthy is their family, that is, in which part of the city they live in.
At the beginning of the book, the family lives in the middle-class part of the city, but then the daughter(main protagonist) fails the test and the family gets thrown out into the poor part of the city.

It's a (children's?) fantasy/dystopia and I think that the city sewers were part of the main mystery, but I'm not sure. Also, there was a guy somewhere in the story?

Natasa ~~
You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 178 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

The Wind Singer by William Nicholson?

(Google search -- site:www.goodreads.com "young adult" dystopian "grades" wealth sewers)

Natasa, around what year did you read this book? This will help us narrow down the search.

I believe you found the book! I even recognize the cover with the swirly S. I read it good 10-15 years ago (in my native language), so I didn't think that stating when I read it would help the search, since translations don't follow immediately after the first edition. But I'll do that it the future search. This was my first time trying to find a book this way.

Thank you so much! :D
It was bugging me for so long.

Having read the trilogy it definitely sounds like The Wind Singer is the book - it fits perfectly.
