Mujda (goodreadscommameen) | 4 comments Historical/bit of romance. Begins with a girl in a big house, her family has been taken I think, and so she needs to escape (I feel like the country was Germany?) so marries for a green card. Said green card husband is an English university tutor/interested in archaeology, so they marry and then plot moves to England, London and stays there. I think she wants to study ballet, is turned down at some point. Then there's a boat incident where the dog jumps overboard and she jumps in and almost drowns. There's also a necklace with a green (?) stone/pendant that has some huge significance but I don't remember why. I think the guy's mum owned it before she died during his childhood and his childhood home is a castle somewhere up North of England. I remember at some point towards the end she runs away and then is reunited with said husband. I read this book back in secondary school, must have been circa 2012/13 but it definitely had been published before then. (I definitely feel like the necklace has some mention in the title of the book).

You can "bump" your thread every month or so. This pushes your thread back to the top of the folder instead of languishing here on page 176 where fewer eyes will see it. Get back in the game! Bump!
You can do this by typing a new comment at the end of the thread, or even by typing the word "bump."
Good luck!

Emma's suggestion of The Morning Gift by Eva Ibbotson looks promising.

There are different cover images.

Quotes from the book:
- "To jump into the sea for a half-grown mongrel?" he jeered.
"Yes. For anything they choose." But she bend her head, for she knew she had risked not only her life, but his and perhaps Sam's - that his cruelty down there on the boat ...
- "And there is a pearl and sapphire necklace which you would be hard put to match anywhere in the world. ..."
