Hope so!
Hope so!
I usually struggle to read a book after I have seen the movie, but so far so good! I am currently on Chapter 0009 and I am really enjoying it.
As I am learning more and more about the OASIS, I can't help but be fixated on how addicting something like that must be, especially in that setting. I know that we already have of MMPORG games and we already have VR Headsets which I am sure will keep getting better and better (Although I have never tried one yet), do you think that type of technology is still years and years away or is it much closer? Would you steer clear from them or would you dive in? Would you create an Avatar which is very similar to your appearance or something completely different, maybe not even human?
For me, I'm not sure. The tech-loving side of me would LOVE to have access to that technology and I would probably create an Avatar which would resemble me as much as possible. The other side of me is quite wary of how addicting it could be and I would need to limit myself. Like anything, factors such as circumstances and environment would have a strong impact (For example, I don't blame Wade for being so invested in it, especially with the circumstances and what is at stake).
There are definitely pros though... The OASIS school sounds fantastic (view spoiler) , oh wow!
It is definitely a fun read so far (which I definitely needed after World War Z, haha) and I am having fun picking up on the references, even though I am sure that a lot of them are going straight over my heard, but I still appreciate them. I am certainly getting the feel that the writer is a die-hard 80s games & pop culture fan and probably didn't even need to do that much research for the book, and I think it shows when somebody is a true passionate fan.

Great, let us kno! I have already noted quite a few differences between the book and the movie, but I did see it a while ago, so I could be remembering it wrong, haha.

Hoping to read this during this week.
I have not seen the movie. Planning to watch after I finish.

For your discussion questions, for virtual realms that I depend on, Facebook for sure, I'm not as hooked as I once was, and I don't use any other social media really (does goodreads count? ;). Amazon is something I love the convenience of, and if it was like oasis where everything was accessible through it, I can see the practicality of using it.
(view spoiler)
Wow, I've just finished it!! This was such a fun read! I tried reading it a few years ago, but I just couldn't get into it for some reason, but I am so glad that I gave it another chance.
I don't really depend on much Social Media, apart from the odd nosy scroll on Facebook and Goodreads haha.
I think my favourite character (view spoiler)
I am glad that the atmosphere, for me, still felt quite fun and focused on the contest. I mean, if you really think about it, the circumstances are just awful, so it could have gone dark quite quickly & easily, but it didn't.
I thought my 80s pop culture knowledge wasn't too bad until I read this haha. As I've said before, I wish I knew more about the 80s to be able to recognise more of the references, I'm sure that would have been fun. Had they been 90s references, I am sure I would have got most of them.
I think it safe to say that both Ernest Cline & Halliday are die-hard 80s super-duper-fans. Is anybody else that passionate about something? I would say that the closest I ever got to that level would be back in my Harry Potter Obsession years haha.
I actually saw the movie before reading the book on this one. I actually saw it a couple of weeks before our polls went up. As I had already tried and failed to read the book a few years ago I decided to just watch the movie (I will usually read the book first, if it is a movie based on a book). (view spoiler) This being said, I would still recommend the movie and I will be re-watching it this weekend haha.

Kelsey wrote: "Haha, I get pretty obsessed with basically every tv show I fall in love with. " same!! How can you binge watch a tv series only once?? Haha
Hope you are all having a great day! Can't believe it's February already!
Let's get this month started with the newest BOTM pick... Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.
Once again, I am stepping out of my reading comfort zone and I am really looking forward to reading this and talking to you about it after!
I have gotten a few questions ready, to get the conversation started!
The OASIS becomes a part of daily life for users around the globe. What virtual realms do you depend on?
If you could go into the OASIS, would you?
Who was your favourite character?
Have you seen the movie?
