It's really true: sometimes laughter is definitely the best medicine, so for our March read, I'm asking you all to nominate a book that just might produce a few giggles here and there.

If you can come up with one right away, terrific! Otherwise, if you're stuck for a title, I've discovered a lengthy list of humorous crime/mystery novels here:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/book...

As always,

1. do NOT nominate your own book
2. do NOT have your publicist nominate your book
3. if you nominate the winning book, you are the moderator for the discussion. If you don't want to lead the discussion, don't nominate a book.

Have fun with this category.

Lena To Die For - one of the funniest of Linda Howard

Paul Perry (pezski) | 233 comments I'll nominate A Big Boy Did It and Ran Away by Christopher Brookmyre.

Brookmyre has been called "A Scottish Carl Hiaissen" as his crime novels often mix political issues and humour. For my money, he's one of the nest writers around. Also, he comes up with THE best titles.

message 4: by Gisela (new)

Gisela Hafezparast | 368 comments I'll nominate The Guts. Serious, but like all of Roddy Doyle's book, really funny at the same time.

Skye | 2105 comments I'll nominate Cold Feet , by Karen Pullen.

Icewineanne | 349 comments Quite Ugly One Morning (Jack Parlabane, #1) by Christopher Brookmyre Quite Ugly One Morning by Christopher Brookmyre

Oh dear. Paul beat you to Brookmyre. Another author, perhaps?

Gisela, I loved that book (in fact that entire series), but it isn't the right category -- meaning not mystery or crime. Do you want to choose another?

One day I will not do this in my lunch break on the quick and actually do it properly. Sorry, I don't think I know a funny crime novel right now. Doesn't matter there are already good nominatons.

message 20: by Suzy (new)

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I nominate Crashed by Timothy Hallinan. I read a later installment in this series and loved the wise-cracking humor. Have been meaning to go back to this book #1 in the Junior Bender series.

message 21: by Suzy (new)

Suzy (goodreadscomsuzy_hillard) | 702 comments I have to say that The Moonstone might fit this category. Many times I've laughed at the way our narrator is telling the story!

message 22: by Lena (new)

Lena I enjoyed the early Junior Bender Books.

That's too bad. My library only seems to have his Jack Parlabane series (Quite Ugly is #), not A Big Boy did it...

maybe interlibrary loan?

NancyJ (nancyjjj) Nancy wrote: " ILR? "

I haven't actually used it yet in this area. Whenever I inquire, they tell me it will take 4-8 weeks. If it wins, I can try.

I'm hoping for Agnes and the Hitman. I listened to an audio sample and it made me laugh right away. I liked her inner dialogue.

Good choice of theme! At this time of year (low sun, low vitamin D and all that), I really need more laughter in my life.

I think one more day of nominations, and I'll put the poll up on the 10th.

Just to muscle in on this space, if anyone wants to read The Fiend by Margaret Millar with me, I've got the thread set up under Buddy Reads with reading to start the 14th or so. I'll be reading it anyway, so feel free to join in and your two cents.

message 28: by Chris (new)

Chris | 316 comments There is always Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. LOL funny at times, but not sure they are true mysteries. What do you think?
