What Else are you reading?

I love the idea of a book club - for board gamers or just a book club in general. But I couldn't participate cuz I know I would never stick to it. I just can't commit to reading a book as part of a group and rarely take suggestions from books from friends.

I may join in the next book... and I may read Circe one day. Just not right now.

I ALWAYS have a very long list of books I want to read. Book lists in my head, in my Amazon account, and at the library. I also have 3 to 6 different books on the go at any particular time and will often put a book down for months or even a year because the new shiney book caught my eye and I just had to start something new. I almost always go back but it sometimes takes a very long time to finish.

Having said all that, I thought I'd ask what other board gamers are reading (besides Circe). Right now I'm reading All Our Wrong Todays by Elan Mastai. Only a third of the way through it but loving it so far.

If you missed Circe or didn't want to participate in that one, what are you reading right now?

Thanks for joining, regardless! I don't expect everyone to be thrilled by every book, or to participate in each one - but hopefully we land on something that's more in line with your tastes next time.

While reading Circe, I'm also co-reading Red Mars, by Kim Stanley Robinson.

I'm also attempting to read all the Sherlock Holmes books. I got through A Study In Scarlet just fine, and I'm now on The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes... but I kind of stalled there. The short stories are a bit tougher for me to parse, for some reason. I may just stick to the novels.

My sister read Red Mars and loved it! I think that is part of a larger series and she enjoyed them all. I may have to check that one out! Good reading for a month of playing Terraforming Mars a lot.

Watership Down - Catching up on some classics I’ve always meant to read.

The Great Hunt - As with the prior item, I’ve meant to read the Wheel of Time series for a while and the recent announcement of Amazon’s show was enough to get me moving.

Yeah, I saw that it was a series! I'll see how I like the first one and go from there. Sometimes with series' like this, I just cast the first book aside after finishing it and go on my way. All depends on how well it draws me in.

I've really been enjoying The Expanse series though. That's a story I kind of don't want to end (though, there are only two books left in the current 9-book series!).

I intend to read this at some point. My son is 4 right now, and a bit young for it I think... but in a few years, I'll go on the journey with him.

I don't want to throw down the money on Circe and the holds list at the library is more than 6 months long, so I'm going to wait until Matt is done with it on Audible and check it out.

In the meantime, I'm trying to work my way back through the Joe Ledger series by Jonathan Maberry (currently on The Dragon Factory) and also reading Paper Girls, Vol. 2 (just read Volume 1 last week and have the next few waiting on the shelf). Matt and I are also reading Coraline to our 5 month old.

I read several of the Expanse books and was really digging them. The last one I read was Cibola Burn, though, and it was a drag so I haven't been keeping up with them.

Sounds good. My wife and I shared Audible books. We just couldn't use the device syncing. Had to always tell the app "NO, DON'T JUMP TO THAT POINT!"

Matt and I are also reading Coraline to our 5 month old.

Oh, Coraline would be a good read to my 4 year old! We actually just started The Hobbit with him. It's his first "grown up book". I wasn't sure how he would take it, but he LOVES it. We read it at bedtime and he loves being able to close his eyes (no pictures) and just listen.

Cibola Burn was different. If you listened to it on Audible, be advised that a different reader's version was eventually replaced with the regular one last year. That old reader turned some people off. It's also just a different kind of story. I liked it, but I get that not everyone did.

That said... the rest of the story goes to really interesting, new places. The "final trilogy" just began with Persepolis Rising and so far it's really excellent.

If you're looking for books for kids, I definitely recommend Fortunately, the Milk! We read that one with the baby, too, and it's ridiculous and super silly and fun.
