I'll nominate Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee - "CB Lee is a bisexual Chinese-Vietnamese American female writer whose novels include the Sidekick Squad series, a young adult science fiction adventure that follow queer teens who take on a corrupt government superhero agency"
I’ll have to double check when I get home, but it looks like all of my female-author selections are either series or not speculative fiction.
MrsJoseph wrote: "That looks really interesting!!"She wrote the wonderful The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, and this looks just as good :)
I'll nominate Darkmage by M.L. SpencerFemale author, and I've been itching to try this for awhile now. It kinda fits in the dark fantasy/grimdark mode, I believe. I did read a short story that was really good from this author and I've been meaning to get to the books ever since.
I'm nominating
The Witch Boy by Molly OstertagBook Blurb (Spoiler tag due to length): In thirteen-year-old Aster's family, all the girls are raised to be witches, while boys grow up to be shapeshifters. Anyone who dares cross those lines is exiled. (view spoiler)
The story explores the subject of not conforming to gender rules. The graphic novel is recommended by my teenage daughter and her LGBTQIA friends.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I love this book!
I nominate Who Fears Death. It is SF and was written by Nnedi Okorafor, who is a woman. The book, therefore, fits the theme.
4) When nominating a book for a theme, you must include WHY your nomination fits the monthly themeAlso, one nomination per person.
Please edit any post that does not fit the criteria, so that it is not invalidated.
Thank you.
OK. So, as mentioned by Mod Colleen, we require that nominations for themes include the reason you nominated that book for that theme. Current list of accepted Nominations:
The End of the Day by Claire North
Not Your Sidekick by C.B. Lee
Darkmage by M.L. Spencer
The Witch Boy by Molly Ostertag
Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor
The Power by Naomi AldermanWritten by a woman about a society where male/female power dynamics are suddenly flipped on their head. I hear it’s amazing.
I nominate The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes - This is a time travel mystery/thriller, apparently. Also has a female main character.

I also loved this!
Nyssa wrote: "It looks like we have a great list of nominations so far. I think I'd be up to reading any these."In my case, definitely more than half are either already on my reading list, already read or of interest, and that's a pretty good hit rate.
Becky wrote: "I nominate The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes - This is a time travel mystery/thriller, apparently. (Booo!)
So I'm changing it to The Gray House by Mariam Petrosyan. It's by a woman, about a living house for people with disabilities. :)
Added:The Dreamblood Duology by N.K. Jemisin
The Gray House by Mariam Petrosyan
Removed The Shining Girls
On a Red Station, Drifting by Aliette de BodardAliette de Bodard is female and the story is about AI's born from humans and is still considered family.
I have to say that the list of nominated books for March is looking...intimidatingly good. I kinda want to try a little bit of all of them, lol.
Winning Announcement:The March 2019 Non-Male Authors (includes non-binary) BotM is The Power by Naomi Alderman!
I'll send out a group email a bit later today.
