It motivates me to read more carefully, so I do not have to go back and I do remember the plot better. Also I find highlighting and bookmarking to be useful aids if I need to review or go back.

I read is Kindle these days...just easier, less clutter and more portable.

I read mainly on the kindle, but I am sometimes too lazy to click back and check things like "she just said she went to coffee with her mother, and I am sure earlier it was her sister ..." things. Whereas, I would quite happily flick through a paperback to check. So, I dont think it is that I don't remember key plot points, more I am just too lazy to double check things.
