5 years ago I checked out a book from the library; the author's name started with A I think, and the book was called "The W-" (can't remember the rest of the word), and was about a creature of the same name. The creature was featured on the front cover as a silhouette picture in yellow and black.

The book was about children who lived in a fictional town where there was lots of advertising and consumerism, and lots of new technology. When a car stopped in traffic, the car in front of them would begin to display hologram ads. The children were haunted by a disturbing creature; I remember it looking like a bald man, except super long and lanky with long fingers and a too-small mouth. I also think it wore a yellow night suit. The creature, called "The W-" only appeared only to the children and could give them a fever by poking them with its long fingers. I think it was also attracted to technology.

I don't remember any more about the plot, except that the kids somehow escape the creature in the end. If you recognize anything in this post, please respond. I have been looking for this book for over a year, and would be grateful if you could help me out.
