I read this in 5th grade, which would've been the year 2000 or 2001. I remember the cover of the book was an illustration of a girl with long wavy blonde hair standing on a road with a mile marker. The plot was about how unhappy she was that her family moved from a sunny state (Florida maybe) to a cold one (I think it was Minnesota). She doesn't like her new school and I remember one part where she is talking about a family member back home named "Tom Klooze" (sp) and some of her classmates laugh at her. I also vaguely remember a part where she wakes up in a hospital with stitches after an icicle falls on her face.

This is "The Year My Parents Ruined My Life" by Martha Freeman. She moves from California to Pennsylvania. Great book!
