Cozen As some may have noticed, Wattpad has currently updated their site. Now you get to read three chapters of a story and then are required to pay for coins in order to read further. Yes, it is as I lst stated, Wattpad is becoming a greedy enterprise. Sure this new practice is for some of the stories but the idea that this once free writing app is now charging you to read the stories should be eye opener. I don’t know what we can do. I’m a writer and an reader there, but this has to be addressed. Any ideas?

Tiana (tiana_jade) | 4 comments I had not been on Wattpad in awhile, but I've recently gone on and clicked a few stories, and none that I have gone through have required coins. I can see the website has a lot of new changes, none so far I am all that fond of, but this coins situation isn't one I have come across yet.

Lee Henry (fangyboyhenry) | 5 comments They're only testing out the coins on a handful of very popular stories, so it doesn't really affect anyone at the moment. I think it's a way for readers to support their favorite writers, which as a writer, I think it's pretty cool and I look forward to seeing whether or not Wattpad decides to move forward with it. But I doubt they'll do anything with it for a while.

Cozen One of the biggest pet peeves is series stories that a lot of people discover the hard way. How is this coin system any different? If you’re going to market your stories, than publish it. I’ve recently seen a lot of self published authors come over to Wattpad to advertise their already published books.

I came to Wattpad to over seven years ago to read people’s stories for free. To read stories of really talented people who might one day become great writers... see Tijan Now some might say there is some bias on likability because the people at Wattpad are less criticle than the general population on say Amazon. That’s true.

But as a writer myself, I would not ever ask for anyone to pay to read anything I wrote (which is another pet peeve when authors here would withdrawl there story chapters from ending so that they could publish them). And maybe my stories aren’t that good either. That’s not why I’m there.

I use to think that there was two types of writers: Those who write for money - Stephanie Meyer. And those who write for the love of writing - J. R. Rowlins. But there is a third group, the one I’m in, that write to get the stories out of my head.

Wattpad catered to that need without the competition and scrutany. Now it’s progressing more to money schemes and over use of annoying ads. How much more will they go more towards a paying system than inspiring future writers?

Author MaryEllen (httpwwwgoodreadscommcampc65) Thank you for your insight. I have thought about what you have said and I tend to agree with you.
