Pam Baddeley | 3334 comments 81 books completed - 19 ahead of schedule. Typical, as the one year I set 150 as the target I fell a few short yet at the moment I seem on course to read well over 100, exactly like last year!

Ismat J | 6 comments J Austen is on of my favourite authors. She was great writer before women's lib. of the twentieth century. She did have a fiance but sadly died before her marriage.

Well Worsley actually casts doubt on the 'fiance' bit .... she was proposed to more than once but was certainly settled into spinsterhood with its financial penalties but other compensations by her 30s. Her closest relationship was always with her sister Cassandra. It was Cassandra who had actually been engaged as a young woman but her fiance died of a disease while working abroad. Worsley certainly doubts if Jane would have been able to write if she had married.
