So I've surprised myself getting through 246 pages on day one. It starts off slow and is some dense reading at times. However, I found there are a number of instances of way more character introspective than is needed, so I started skimming some of those parts.

I also felt the first 20 pages wasted half its time giving way more background for the girl that is going to make any difference to the story. Fortunately, Cronin seems to be a solid writer, but my Cthulhu, I'm really over books/authors that don't cut the chase better.

That being said, I finished the first section, and after a slow start, shit gets real, yo'. Gonna be an interesting ride, plus seeing how they cover it on the new TV show.

Char | 17469 comments The girl is actually the focus of the story.

That said, I liked the second book better than the first and I couldn't even get into the third one.

I meant to say the background of the girl's mother. That easily could have been cut in half and still given a full picture.

Steve Peek (jstephenpeek) | 9 comments Great book! One of the best in a long time. I don't know how the TV series can do it justice.

Oh I misunderstood!

Well, I got through parts 2 and 3 and began part 4. 2 and 3 were decent enough, but I'm shocked at how 2 ended, and how 4 picks up such a long but not completely specified time later. I'm already back to not digging the book so much.

So I'm about 700 pages in, mostly because I'm skimming a lot of the bloat and unnecessary details. This book is in no way the story I thought it would be. It does remind me of a dozen books and movies of similar subjects, and doesn't have much in the way of originality. I am pretty disappointed in this one, Can't say I have any desire to read the sequels, or even watch the TV show at this point.

I surrender. This book just goes on and on with one stolen concept after another, and drawing the story out so unnecessarily long. I'm done with this and will never waste time on the sequels.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) I'm 60 pages in and the verbal diarrhea is driving me crazy, sigh. I prefer books that start off with a bang or at least hook me pretty quick. Please tell me I should hang in there and it will pick up soon! :-)

Judy Pancoast (judyindisguise711) Wow. I can’t believe the people who aren’t enjoying this, who are saying details don’t matter. How do you know what will matter? There are three books in the series and a helluva lot happens!

Alondra Miller | 2551 comments I loved this trilogy. Surprised, as well, that folks did not like it, but to each his own. Of course, I tend to like dense books with detail and background. Loved the first 2 books and liked the last :)

Every book is not for every body.

Steve Peek (jstephenpeek) | 9 comments I loved the trilogy. Some of the best horror I've read in a decade.
The TV series, on the other hand, began with two episodes that seem far removed from the book and try to keep your interest by not letting you in on much of anything. I hope it gets better.
Amazon and Netflix Studios are impressing me with their movies. Fox may turn Passages into a flop.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 271 comments I’m 13% in, you say at 20% I’ll have a surprise?

Maybe a little earlier, maybe a little later, but somewhere around that point the book changes. A lot. I'll leave it at that.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 271 comments I’m at 23%, nothings shocked me yet .

OK, so my percentage isn't exact. But things are gonna change. Hopefully you'll embrace it. I didn't like it.

Fanning has been talking to grey about proclivities.
