Books similar to KOTLC?
I feel you Luna!! I suffer from book nostalgia too ahah, and is the main reason I reread books so often. And I loved the Mysterious Benedict Society also!! Hmmm.....have you heard of the Magisterium series?? It was pretty different from most books I've read in regards to the main character. When you read it you'll see; he isn't exactly the sweetest or kindest person ever ahah😂 But he's still the hero, which made it really interesting in my opinion, because it was nice to have something a little out of my norm. But if you're looking for books more like Keeper, I'd probably suggest both Percy Jackson series(the first and the second), the Beyonders trilogy(it's been a while since I read this one, but I did like it😊), or Michael Vey(this is more science fiction than fantasy, but it was still sooooo good!). Also another one of my favorites was the 39 Clues series👌. I only kind of kept up with like the five series that came afterward😂, but the first was definitely the best! I looovvee that series; it's not super fantasy-filled, again it's more science fiction, but it almost has some historical fiction in there as well, which I LOVE!!
I'm not sure if any of these books were the exact type you're looking for, but they're just some of my faves:) If you do read them, I hope you enjoy them!!😁😁
Also, I'd totally be open to a few book recommendations myself!😅 Whenever I don't have any new books to read or old books to reread.....I'm not ready and it's really sad:( ahahaha, so I'm always on the lookout for new series!😃
Ooh, thanks for the reccomendations! And I'll always be ready to share some reccomendations! ;) Definitely try the Selection series by Kiera Cass. Also, Revel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson is amazing, although I could only find it as an ebook. I also recommend trying Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs. It was nice.
Oh, and Geekerella by Ashley Poston is really cute, as is P.S. I Like You by Kasie West. But those are more realistic fiction.
And if you liked The Mysterious Benedict Society, did you read the one about Nicholas Benedict? It was nice backstory.
Of course!;) and ooh, I'll look all those up! And I've read P. S. I like you !! One of my absolute favorite quotes is from that book. Also I did read the one about Nicholas Benedict, and enjoyed it very much! I really like Trenton Lee Stewart. Have you read Secret Keepers by him?? That was a really good one👌 thanks again for the suggestions!
Oh, yeah I did read Secret Keepers! Yeah, it was good! I'm glad you like P.S. I Like You! I love it too! And ooh, what's the quote that you like? Also, I accidentally had a typo on one of the things I reccomended! Rebel, not revel mechanics was the title. Whoops. Spell check keeps getting me these days. 😂
No problem for the recommendations! Thank you for your suggestions, too!!😁👍
I'm glad you liked Secret Keepers! A lil reason I thought it was kinda cool was because there was someone named Penelope in it;)😂😅 and the quote I like from P. S. I like you was this: "Confidence. I'm bad at it. I get too self-conscious. Especially about things that mean a lot to me. I feel like if I hold thing close, never share, then I never give anyone the opportunity to judge me." I related A LOT to this quote, because it basically put into words what I feel anytime in in a public setting😂 And oh ahah , don't worry about it;) Rebel Mechanics, that sounds so interesting!! What's it about??
As for the suggestions, of course!!! Discussing books with other cool lovers is one of my FAVORITE things to do😁
Thanks for sharing the quote! I feel ya, Penny. I usually feel like I don't share enough, too. Too many things I regret not sharing. Lol I'll be on the lookout for more characters named Penelope!
Oh, and Rebel Mechanics is such a great book! Ok so just imagine like in pre-revolutionary America (New York, to be specific) trying to rebel against Britain. Ok, so Britain is sort of suppressing them, but there is also a wealthy upper class in America and then a lower class. But here's the thing: there is MAGIC.
I love magic, so anyway the upper class is the Magister class, who keep the city in order (the gas lights, for on thing) with magic. They have lots of money. They also have a working class working for them (who are the mechanics because they are handy with tools and trying for a revolution), and governesses.
Now our main character Verity here is attempting to become a governess. But she has a secret that she can't share with anyone (no, I will not spoil, even though Verity kind of tells you the secret anyway, but I'll leave you to some suspense). Anyway, Verity's looking to be a governess, so she goes around and gets interviewed, etc. While she's on the train to get interviewed, the train gets robbed by these bandits. The Masked Bandits is their name. Supposedly they are stealing from the government.
Verity also meets the mechanics we mentioned earlier, and she encounters one inventor she particularly likes named Alec.
But moving along, Verity gets the governess position at the Lyndon home, so she is staff now to Lord Henry Lyndon. Now, please note that Henry is actually quite young to be a Lord (his brother and the brother's wife passed and their kids were put in his care) because he is barely in his twenties. Our main character Verity here is 18.
Well, Henry is this entomologist (studies bugs) and he is very, ahh, absentminded is what the book says, but I prefer the word dreamy (I LOVE Henry. He's so charming! And did I mention he draws? He sketches people and he's got this sandy hair and blue, blue eyes.).
Where was I? Anyway, so Verity here is hired, but the mechanics also take an interest in her, and the mechanics are planning rebellion. They ask her to be their spy on Henry's brother's father in law (not really related to Henry, but Henry's nieces and nephews who Verity is the governess for's grandfather), the Governor (by the way, the Governor hates Henry.)
So Verity must juggle being a spy, governess, and keeping her secret. Don't forget, those mysterious Masked Bandits are also plotting rebellion.
I just love the book! The promise of rebellion always keeps the plot moving! I hope you enjoy it if you decide to read it! :D
AHHH!!! WOW that sounds so cool! I just ordered it from the library;) Augh I'm so excited to read it now😂😂 Thanks so much for the great description!
Hey guys I’m newer to this group! But I love the idea of recommending books. I’m kinda in a book stump myself rn.
Hi!! Wow, I got the notification saying "Keefe posted a new comment" and for a split second I had a HEART ATTACK and was so confused, until I realized.....Keefe........isn't............real..................😭😪 Hahaha😂 And as for books, basically all the ones I mention above are most of my favorites😊😁
Nice to meet you! Let's see, what genres do you enjoy reading? That will help the recommendation process. :D
lol I’m sorry!!! I’m kinda obsessed with Keefe😂I’m pretty much open to anything. I love futuristic type books. I enjoy murder mysteries. Pretty much any fantasy/fictional young adult books. I’ve read a lot of different genres recently.
So I keep reapeating this to everyone I reccomend books to, but it seems like a perfect fit for you since it is furturistic, has some suspense, and is fantasy! It's called the Selection by Kiera Cass. I absolutely love it! Also, if you haven't read the Hunger Games yet, I reccomend that, too. If you like teenage spy-ish people with a touch of historical fiction, then I reccomend A School for Unusual Girls by Kathleen Baldwin or Rebel Mechanics by Shanna Swendson. High in suspense!
Oh my goodness I just browsed your read shelf and you read Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls series too! I just read them over the summer! What did you think of them?
Ooh sounds interesting!! I’ll check it out! I have read the hunger game and frankly I wasn’t impressed. OH MY GOSH I LOVE THE GALLAGHER GIRLS SERIES!! I’ve read it so many times and it’s amazing!!
Hi! I'm new here. I have not read any of those books, (some more to add to my ever-growing list of to-read books!) I would recommend the Kiki Strike series to anyone who likes mystery or spy books. They're kind of short but I loved them!
Although it's classified as a "kid book," Story Thieves by James Riley is SO good. It's about a girl named Bethany who is half fictional (meaning her mom was from the "real" world and her dad was from a book) and a boy named Owen who has read virtually everything. They jump into the Kiel Gnomenfoot series and Kiel comes out to the nonfictional world and he and Bethany have to try and stop a super powerful magician named the Magister while Owen and a cyborg named Charm have to stop a really smart evil scientist named Dr. Verity in the Kiel Gnomenfoot series. Again, a lot of people would classify it as a kid book and I've talked to plenty of people who didn't like it, but I love the series SO MUCH! You just have to make sure to read all five books if you do read it, because most people stop at the third and hate it.
Yesss!! I love story thieves!! I’ve read the first two books and I have the third one but haven’t read it yet.
Read them all! I don't know if I said this before, but don't stop after 3! A lot of people read the first 3 and think that that is the whole series, but there is 4 and 5! YOU MUST READ THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I’ve had the third book for a while, but I’ve been in a weird reading funk. I hate it!! I haven’t been reading much and it’s been driving me insane. It’s like I know what I want to read I just don’t have that book, does that make sense?😅 probably not😂
I get it! I've had a book that I know I'll like because I like the series (The Missing series) and I want to read it, but I'm like, "My brain can't take any more time travel!" And so I read a.... a.... *whispers* romance novel.AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
🙀🙀a romantic novel!! lol joking. I like some romantic novels, not many tho. I’m currently reading a book about a homeschooler who learns her moms side of the family are all time travelers.
I only read the first book for assigned reading in school. Does anyone who's read the whole trilogy think it's worthwhile?

It's pretty good. It's basically sci-fi with a lot of romance. SPOILER BELOW!
There is an interesting part where she sees her future self in the past, though.

Sorry. I am SUPER bad with spoilers. I'll read a book series, and then my friend will be like, "So... who'd the main character end up with?" because they only read the first few books, and I'll be like, "I'm not telling! You have to read it yourself," and then I spoil it later anyway. Sorry!

So, that lead me to come to you guys and ask: is there any books that you know of that are similar to KOLTC? Just those kind of books that give you a warm, fuzzy feeling when you think of when you first read them (for me, KOTLC, the Selection, the Mysterious Benedict society, Rebel Mechanics, etc). If you know any novels that have that nice, comfortable plot and friendly chatacters like KOTLC (almost as if you've lived in the setting your whole life, that's how familiar you feel), please reccomend! Thanks! :)
