Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments I know this is going over the top, but this one could even be a monthly challenge, finding books that fit the vowels and the genre challenge per month, if this makes sense.

Lets see if this one works for the Horror genre -- I'll give it a try. (What do you think Renee, would this be legal?)

No As- The Body; READ 10/26/14
No Es- A Good Man Is Hard To Find; READ 10/25/14
No Is- The Tell-Tale Heart; READ 10/24/14
No Os- The Witches; READ 10/9/14
No Us- Dark Places; READ 10/13/14
No Ys- Into the Darkest Corner; READ 10/16/14

message 70: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Great job Melissa. I love that you were able to match your selections to the genre for October.

People are getting so creative with how they use the mini-challenges. It's great!

message 72: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Thanks! I'm trying not to use the Group Reads, which could have made this a bit easier.

message 73: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
Lol! Melissa for the win!
I STILL have two vowels to go, so I could never pull that off. Kudos!

Entirely legal. The only books on which I'm crying foul in the mini-challenges are the group read books, since we're trying to expand our reading with the minis.

Renee M | 4795 comments Mod
Which you have done nicely. :)

This all started with one of Faye's questions. But I don't remember which number. We all tossed out titles with no Es. It's still around for ideas.

Does anyone remember which question it was?

message 82: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Coyle | 1557 comments Six Cheers for Sandy!!! Way to go!

Kassandra | -1 comments Challenge Completed November 27th!

No A's - My Sort-of, Kind-of Hero
No E's - As You Wish
No I's - God, No!
No O's - Mud Puddle

No Y's - Julius Caesar

message 92: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Mason (lmason17) | 174 comments Holly wrote: "What did you think of Carmilla, Lucy? :D"

Hi Holly! I actually really enjoyed it - it was a quick, fun read, and there were some 'horror' moments that were a lot more effective and creepier than Dracula. I also enjoyed the fact it was all from a female POV.

How about you?

message 93: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Rather gay, slightly archaic female vampires? Hell yes! Aha, I really liked it, as you can probably tell. Despite being considerably shorter, I really think it packed a punch equal to that of Dracula!

November 'I Need To Buy A Vowel' Challenge:

No As-
No Es- Fangirl
No Is- Manhattan Transfer
No Os- A Streetcar Named Desire
No Us- The Catcher in the Rye
No Ys- The Sense of an Ending

Inadvertently, I've mostly completed this from what I've read so far this month... Love it when coincidences happen!

Absolutely - in fact I actually found it much creepier than Dracula, probably because it was a lot shorter and got rid of all of that gung-ho, Victorian, manly adventure stuff (which, in all honesty, is a bit of a guilty pleasure!).

message 96: by Holly, That Geeky One (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) | 1949 comments Mod
Yeah, I can understand why Dracula is as popular as it is. Afterall, it kinda falls into that easy-to-get-into adventure novel genre, probably as much as it does horror.

I just wish Carmilla was more widely recognised as PURE AWESOMENESS.

New completion date posted since this challenge has been so popular. :D
