I had already started this before Circe agreed to join the BR. First few chapters definitely set up a claustrophobic atmosphere and make me wonder just where this is going.Like the twins, though I do wonder whether their mum is telling them everything.

Ch 9 (view spoiler)[when that dude paused I knew he was gonna announce Ellery as the third candidate. I was like no way is this not happening. I like Malcolm but man his brother is sketchy as fuck!! Declan needs to leave and stop acting so suspicious. I don’t really have a suspect at this point but I’m enjoying the book and I love Ellerys interest in crime. Also Brooke is being weird and I don’t trust it. (hide spoiler)]

I totally ship Ellery and Malcolm but I also need more Mia cause I love my bisexual girl. I wonder if Daisy and Declan being in town is related at all to Brooke’s disappearance and the targeting of the homecoming candidates. I also don’t like how cagey Sadie is about her past. Or seeing Brooke and Van Puckett being shady. What were they talking about!? (hide spoiler)]

Ch 29 (view spoiler)[holy shit their mom had an affair with Ryan’s dad!! I was not expecting that. And Katrin was the one who hit that teacher and is hanging these signs! Wtf girl what’s wrong with you?? I can’t believe that video Malcolm took isn’t worth more and that receipt. It should be enough to at least make Katrin a suspect. Also I have a bad feeling that text Ryan just got was about Brooke’s body. (hide spoiler)]

Final thoughts: (view spoiler)[I wasn’t that shocked that Malcolm’s step dad was the killer. The part that made me first curious about him was because he ended up marrying Malcom’s mom. It was something about the way the author worded it that just made me take a second and add him to the suspect list in my mind.
I was apprehensive to read this book because I wasn’t a fan of One of Us is Lying, but I liked the characters a lot more in this book and the plot was interesting. (hide spoiler)]

im almost halfway through the book and really enjoying it so far. i like the witty banter and how the main characters interact with pop culture references like Ezra's commentary: “I have a feeling that on Wednesdays they wear pink” and Ellery's "that's what she said" reference. those had me cracking up. (view spoiler)[ i don't honestly think Malcolm or Declan have anything to do with the bad stuff that has been happening, though it seems like a peculiar coincidence that Declan just so happens to pop back into town right at those moments and Malcolm sure has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time so much that it seems someone is setting him up bigtime. i am suspicious of a couple characters but don't wanna speculate too much yet. i really want more information on the twins' aunt because i think them not knowing much of the history of that whole situation is important and connected to everything that has been going on. Finished (view spoiler)[so it was Peter. Huh. How very Riverdale. Always a dad. I suspected Peter when Katrin mentioned Brooke disappeared from her room. If it wasn't Malcom she was visiting then obvs it was Peter.

I think Katrin is horrible.

I didn't really like the ending. This book was a disappointment to me since I really loved One of us is lying. I rated this 3 stars. I did enjoy most of the mystery aspect but really this was meh. (hide spoiler)]

wow so much has happened - some of it i saw coming some of it not so much. i was right about several things but glad that everything isn't totally transparently obvious. i am about 80% done so i will probably finish next time i read.

~i knew Sadie conceived the twins in Echo Ridge when she was back because of the timing and her being so vague to them by not wanting to talk about it. and since she seemed to have many bfs i figured any of the many men she spent time with could've been the twins dad but yah, i didn't see the affair as part of that.

~i also realized something was up with Officer Rodriguez the way he reacted to seeing the twins and dropping the mug early in the book - and after the reveal later on i get why he reacted that way but also wasn't expecting that to be the reason.

~i assumed that the hit-and-run at the beginning of the book was significant and figured that was part of why Brooke was so distressed because she seemed overly upset - like almost guilty rather than just mourning the loss of her fave teacher so i wasn't surprised to find out that she and Katrin secretly took Katrin's car to be fixed outside of where they lived so no one knew about it. i want to believe that was an actual accident but i am starting to wonder about that and a few other things...
