Also - Don't forget to pick an image for our February avitar and forward it to me by PM so I can update the group page when February starts.

Joyce (eternity21) | 726 comments I am reading The Bone Witch for Magical Realism. There were so many of my TBR on that list.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 603 comments Hi everyone! I'm super excited to have the chance to pick a shelf for next month.

I didn't even realize just how many shelves there were! WOW.

For March, I pick Psychological Fiction.

I hope everyone is able to find something that they would like to read. I was really surprised at the variety of books on this shelf.

Thanks again for the opportunity, Elvenn!

We have a shelf picker for April! Thanks to Ariel for picking our shelf for April. In honor of the National Academy of Poets designating April as National Poetry Month, she has picked the Poetry as the shelf for next month.

I am running out for a while, but will be back this afternoon to start the appropriate threads. Hope everyone enjoys the Poetry!

message 1467: by Ariel (last edited Mar 17, 2017 11:52AM) (new)

Ariel (yesalmsot) | 78 comments Thank you, Sassafrass, for passing the shelf-picking baton to me! :)

As Lyn mentioned, April is National Poetry Month. I figured we can all celebrate by reading a book from the Poetry shelf!

I haven't read much in the way of poetry since high school, when I was forced to, so National Poetry Month seems as good a time as any for a little revisit. And with 100,000 options on the shelf, I hope everyone can find something to enjoy!

If you're interested in learning more about National Library Month, please visit the Academy of American Poets's website.

Better late than never, right Karin? I am often late in the month with mine as well.

message 1470: by Joyce (new)

Joyce (eternity21) | 726 comments Thank you Ariel for passing the baton on to me to pick the next shelf.

Since Walking Dead is now done for the season I find myself wanting to reconnect to the show. Plus it is Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20 year anniversary and I enjoy the continuation of the stories in graphic novels.

So my choice is for Comic and Graphic Novels

Libraries often let you borrow electronically comics and graphic novels now plus often have a section of hard copies. Hoopla is another source as well as Scribed if you have a subscription to this.

Wow, great timing! I've just bought The Complete Maus (Maus #1-2) at the op shop yesterday!

Fab pick, Joyce! ;)

Christina (cmb1987) | 161 comments A friend of mine has all The Walking Dead comics. They offered to let me read them and I have debated forever if I want to try out that style of writing. Guess this is a good time to dabble. :D

if you watch the series you have to read them. Just a warning they don't always line up with the Tv show

Joyce (eternity21) | 726 comments Sassafrass wrote: "Congrats, Joyce. This one will be a stretch for me. I'll have to see what I can come up with."

They have a few romance titles. I'm sure I saw Anita Blake or a few other paranormal authors. I do not recommend Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening I really didn't like that one.

The Pretenders was good.

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 603 comments Joyce wrote: "they have romance comic and graphic novels. I know I remember seeing Anita Blake and are few others. They have a few smutty ones too. :) "

I don't mind the stretch. I've enjoyed this challenge because I've read books that I didn't necessarily think that I would. It should be interesting.

But it's good to know that I can find some romance GN's. Thanks!

I'm a librarian, and I approve this message. ;-)

Hoopla has a neat feature where you can "zoom" in on individual panels, which really helped me when I was just getting into graphic novels. Before, my brain had trouble processing the story because it'd get overwhelmed with all the images on the page.

Wonderful shelf! Although I have read a lot on this shelf, I am also noting that there are still quite a few on my TBR, GR recommends, and friend recommends shelves. I should be able to find at least one book to read and probably more.

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments Nice shelf! There are many books on it that I still want to read.

message 1496: by D.G. (last edited Jun 21, 2017 06:17PM) (new)

D.G. | 1370 comments This was soo difficult! I was seriously considering like 5 shelves...but given the time of year and all the summer blockbusters coming out, I finally settled on...

Movies (I was originally thinking of 'made into a movie' but plain 'movies' has more books!)

This should also be broad enough for all tastes. :)

I'll select the image a bit later!

message 1497: by Karin (new)

Karin Movies--I agree, that's better than "made into a movie" as many people choose only one or two word shelf names!

Thanks, D.G., for a new activity to do (planning July reads) while awaiting the start of Christmas in July. I was amazed at how many of the books on the first page I had read.

message 1499: by Lisette (last edited Jun 22, 2017 02:02AM) (new)

Bea, I have read most of the books on page 1 too. I didn't expect that.

message 1500: by Charity (new)

Charity | 577 comments I have read all the books on the first page except 1. I clearly have an issue with movies and books :-)
