D.G's got it! Though now I'm trying to figure out what Tien's guess was. ...
And yes, Tien, I did seriously consider multiculural But I decided to stretch a bit more, and I picked glbt. It's a shelf I've read a little on, but there's a lot I've never even looked at.
Don't worry that it says there are only 1,470 books on the shelf, and the "next" button seems to give out at page 23. I think it must be a coding error. There are actually over 34,000 books on the shelf; and if you want to go to pages beyond 23, all you have to do is type the page # in the "jump to page" box at the bottom of the page. There are at least 665 pages, so I doubt that any of us will check out all of them.
A couple good authors who don't appear in the first few pages are Nicola Griffith and Rita Mae Brown. Bohjalian has at least one book on this shelf, as does Ursula Le Guin. (I think they're both terrific.) Alison Bechdel's books are comics and graphic novels. Virginia Woolf, Gore Vidal, Truman Capote, and Gertrude Stein have older ones that might help with the Freedom tower. And I don't think HP is here, but of course Cassandra Clare's "City of ..."(Mortal Instruments) series is. A good ya short-story anthology is Am I Blue. And I'm really looking forward to seeing what the rest of you discover.
Thanks to everyone for being such good sports about this!

lemme pick my brains for some non-romance/erotica ones that people might like

I really liked that book.

This is a really good read. Good choice.
Good guess, DG!
@Susan: I was applying your clue #4 in the practical sense - I was looking at 'survival' ha ha ha...

Oh, yes, I see where you'd get that. But I tried to stay away from shelves that were similar to what we've done, and that seemed similar to me to "adventure."

Our shelf picker for March is ... Rora!
Rora, since you don't accept messages, I'm posting the information you need here.
Please reply here as soon as you can, just so we know you got the information and are working on picking a shelf for us.
Here's the link to the list of top shelves.
You should select a shelf that hasn't been used in at least 24 months. The previously picked shelf list, message 1, lists all our previous shelves except the most recent ones. They are: 2012: November=French Literature; December=Steampunk; 2013: January=Magic, February=GLBT.
Any other information you need about the process is probably in Tien's How-To post, message 1.
If you're able to post your choice by Fri., Feb 22, people will appreciate having the weekend to start hunting up what books they'll read.
Have fun picking!!! :)

Terrific! So glad you got the message. Now I'm just in suspense like everyone else, wanting to know what you pick. :)

Awesome! Thanks, Rora!
When you have time in the next week, could you have a look for the avatar? Cheers! Have a fab weekend, everyone... I'll probably be offline as I'll be away :)

Great choice, Rora! I've read some terrific books that are on that shelf. Now I'm off to find some more.

When you have time in the next week, could you have a look for the avatar?
Sure, I put one in the photo section and labeled it books about books.

I'm happy with that choice! I've already read a lot of books on it and have several marked as to-read. Looking forward to this one!

Looking forward to your shelf pick Sherri : )

Thank you, Rora.
I am just starting to think that I should send you a message but you're totally on the ball! ;D

My pick is Dark! Popped the avatar into photos. Hope it's okay that I'm a little early. lol
Nice pick, Sherri. I see that The Historian is on the list and that will be fine for me as I can read it for THREE groups!
o my goodness, we have to wait 16 days before April is here!!!
Thanks for being on the ball, Sherri :)

ooh, I just realised!!! Incidentally, this shelf will be very good fit for our new game (replacing Nellie Bly) which I'll roll out in about 2 weeks' time :)

Ah, very mysterious. Looking forward to it!

Yay! It doesn't look like I'm going to get to Gone Girl this month, and it's right on the first page. Also Clockwork Prince, which I've been wanting to read ever since I finished the first in the series. And I haven't even started to really browse yet.
