ABANDONED. Unusual book format :: chapter headings are lines from poetry

The books (i think it was a series) i am looking for had unusual chapter titles. the chapter titles formed poetry/prose. I think one such chapter title was "all heaven in its power."

I think the book(s) talked about getting xed, and about mitochondria in the body? It is fiction and that is about all I remember. I have been trying to find this book for years. Google provides nothing except bible quotes and i dont remember enough about the book that google can locate anything. thank you for any help you can provide.

This is Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet (book 1 is A Wrinkle in Time), but I think you are combining details from book 2, A Wind in the Door, which has mitochondria stuff, and book 4, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, which has the rhyming rune you are referencing.

I agree with Nora, Scott and Kate. Mitochondria feature heavily in "A Wind in the Door" (that's where I first heard of mitochondria.) I checked "A Swiftly Tilting Planet" and the table of contents is as follows:

1. In this fateful hour
2. All Heaven with its power
3. The sun with its brightness
4. The snow with its whiteness
5. The fire with all the strength it hath
6. The lightning with its rapid wrath
7. The winds with their swiftness
8. The sea with its deepness
9. The rocks with their steepness
10. The earth with its starkness
11. All these I place
12. Between myself and the powers of darkness
