Hello all!

I am exited to start a new bookish project here in our little Book Club, which is "Around the world in books".

I would love to learn more of other Country's customs and cultures, and what best way to do that, if not through books?

I really hope you will join me as this will be a Team effort! The plan is:

- There will be a list of the Continents below.
- You lovely people can comment below with your suggestions.
- The list will be gradually updated with all your suggestions and in time, hopefully we will have a list with at least a book for every Country in each Continent (or most of them, anyway!)
- Seperate discussion threads will be created as and when any of us read a book in the list, at our leisure - no timeline!

The books suggested can be of any genre as long as they are mainly based in a specific Country. A book can be suggested even if it is based in more than one country. More than one book can be suggested for the same Country.

Well, here we go:

Asia:
Human Acts,
Pachinko,
Norwegian Wood,
My Uncle Napoleon,
Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea,
A Thousand Splendid Sun's
The White Tiger

Africa:
Home going,
Half of a Yellow Sun
Born a Crime: Stories From a South African Childhood

North America:
Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company that Addicted America,
The Invention of Wings

South America:
One Hundred Years of Solitude ,
Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent
Next Year in Havana

Antarctica:

Europe:
Outlander,
All the Light We Cannot See,
The Seagull,
The Gulag Archipelago 1918-1956,
Demian. Die Geschichte von Emil Sinclairs Jugend,
The Metamorphosis

Australasia:
The Bone People,
Once Were Warriors,
Down Under
The Dry

Emma wrote: " I also want to make a little suggestion to changing Australia to Australasia, because I am from New Zealand, I would love to include (and have included) books from my home country! " of course! To be honest I just googled the Continents to be on the safe side haha.

I will update the list tonight :)

Also, you should have the option to create a new thread within this topic, as and when you wish to start reading a book on the list. If the option isn't there, please let me know!

I've just added Next Year in Havana in the south amarica section.

I'm thinking of reading Pachiko next month, has anybody else read it?
